Mk3 parts too big? Or wings too small?

Recommended Posts

When I saw a preview of the mk3 parts, all I could think was: "Oh those are so awsome!" But as KSP 0.90 got released and try them out for myself I found them really awkward to work with.

So first off, Squad you did a great job on the 0.90 just awsome! :) They allow new cargo options for your stock game. But the little wings wich fit the mk2 system just great are simply too puny to work with on the mk3 system.

The looks of the new mk3 system are beyond my expections and are a great new addition to the game, but maybe for the next update please include some bigger and/or thicker wings.

Again, amazing job on the update. :D

I agree maybe not too small because you can make humongous wings with them for a larger part count. But in comparisson with the absolutely huge mk3 parts look at how thin they are.

Maybe I can make an proper welding option for wings into a future version of welding, but the way King Arthur made them it looks pretty cool and not really tiny.

Otherwise B9 offers some nice wings, but for stock, well maybe if you really really nice ask porkjet. he might maybe add some more wings.

My problem is more the jet engines, none of them has really enough power for lifing these parts, without looking ridicules currently, but I have to admit, that I'm a bit catched with the stuttle style when I build my planes.

Well ok, that is a true point compared to the size they are really thin, there is space for additional wings. I would love to see Porkjet fix the existing wings, where the wings with the sharpest angle are even thinner, which looks strange.

I have more the problem that the two angular wings have problems to attach the controlsurfaces correct.

But too small I would not say, but the parts are indeed pretty heavy.

Stock wing parts are modelled on ultralight glider wings for weight, despite being indestructible barring collisions or krakens. FAR wings can be tweaked down to glider weight and fragility, but by default are much heavier than stock.

Which version are you referring to?

I meant the Mk3 parts, sorry for the misunderstanding.

But for example the B9 wings (not updated to 0.90) are thicker wich to my opinion would fit better with the stock new mk3 parts. because it hasn't been updated and I wanted to play with the new parts so bad I tried the stock wings wich just look absolutely rediculous on such big parts.

So for me if I ever want to use the new mk3 system, I am dependent on B9.

Same for the engines for that matter if you would use Rapiers, good luck. Here again B9 to the resque.

Agree, especial in the engines.

Problem is that wings in general lack a thickness setting both for mods and the stock KSP. Notice how the B9 wings fit with the larger models, but are too big and thick for the smaller ones. KSP's stock wings on the other hand, look good on small planes, but are too flimsy and thin on larger planes. The pWings mods has a somewhat fair balance of both, but sometimes, you want large and thin wings, in which pWings fail, since it increases the thickness of larger wings. A 'thickness' setting has been mentioned by DYJ some time in an early version of the mod, but I've never seen it in action or it doesn't work as it should.

So, the ideal solution (IMO) would either be variable thickness wings, implement a TweakScale that works on parts other than tanks and engines or implement pWings and work the thickness setings out.
