ship refuses to launch. update problem?

Recommended Posts

since the new 'beta than ever' update came out, I was excited, to the point I made a new career mode to test the new upgradeable buildings. however, when I tried to launch the first ship, it would not budge. it said the srb launched, but the ship did not move. also, the revert flight button doesn't work right, as there is no revert to launch or revert to vab buttons. and on the map, kerbin does not show up, only a bright circle thing. also, it says on the loading screen that there are two incompatible/outdated mods: firespitter, and kspapiextensions. would those two mods be the reason why I cant launch ships, or would this simply be a bug in the release?

TL;DR: ship wont launch, update to blame?

Reinstall, or validate your files in Steam, then restart KSP, if the issue persists then please see the stickied threads.

I'm stuck on the pad as well. Went into the Debug Console and got multiple instances of "[Exception]: MissingFieldException: Field '.EditorLogic.startPod' not found." Launched off the both desktop shortcuts, 32 and 64 bit versions and through Steam, as well as validated the install. Does this with stock and user built ships. Its like the key binding the spacebar to the stages is missing

This is the issue. EditorLogic.startPod is only valid in the editor, the fact that it is being called in flight on the launchPad means a coder somewhere messed up. You'll have to narrow it down to which mod is causing the issue and file a bug report with them.

updated some mods, updated kspapiextensions, and found out that one file was not valid. still doesn't work. have pics to prove my predicament. first one is on launch, spacebar did not ignite srb, had to do it manually, but did nothing. also the navball looks weird, all of the icons crunched together. the second one is the map, showing the bright circle instead of kerbin. edit: stupid pic uploader not working

I'm having these bugs too, with the same complaint about kspapiextensions and for some reason, the 000_toolbar too despite having made sure they were current. Any updates on this?

you can update kspapiextensions. not sure about the toolbar. just hope they release some kind of hotfix or something :(

What got me was that I never used API on its own. But it turns out that Proc. Fairings uses it so I'll try updating that and see what happens.

If your mods are out of date, then there is a good chance they're going to malfunction, especially over a new release.

so, with that in mind, I guess the best way to fix it is to reinstall the whole thing and try to remember which mods I used?

Yes – you'll want to keep track of which mods you have installed anyway as it's often impossible to provide support without knowing which mods (and versions) you have installed. I recommend keeping a copy of each mod installer and subscribing to each mod's forum thread.

The Comprehensive Kerbal Archive Network will take care of some of the hassle, but it's a work in progress and doesn't support all mods.
