Anyone else seeing contracts disappearing?

Recommended Posts

specifically the "reach X height" contracts. I started a new career, did the new vessel and 5k contracts, but the 20k, 55k, and atmospheric escape contracts never appeared. The orbit contract is still there, but it's going to be a helluva stretch to do it with 33K funds and very little science (I may not be as good as some rocket builders)

could it possibly be because the rocket I used to go over 5k was waaaaay overblown and actually went straight up to 170k+ (RT-10 with a pod on top) before it came back down (I use FAR). possibly because I went so high the game though I didn't need the contracts?

Mods - I've put this in general to see if I can get some feedback, if it turns out to be a bug, then feel free to move it.

Addendum:

if you pass the limits of the next explore contracts before you've seen them, you won't get them, this is confirmed. can a mod please change the title to "PSA - Contracts disappear if you satisfy their conditions before you unlock them" or something similar ;)

Ok, testing right now. So far I've had the 5km and 11km one. I'm trying to do them incrementally... I've never actually seen one other than 5km... because normally, I achieve orbit in my 1st mission. So perhaps if you complete the 'leave atmo' mission, it may just not give you the others?

Yep, escaping the atmosphere will break the system. Give it less fuel.

Yeah, that's what I thought. And tbh it's fine, if you've got enough knowhow to get out of the atmosphere you don't need those little contracts, it might be a good idea to get knowledge of this mechanic out to a wider audience though, it can leave players (like me) a little on the low side funds wise. maybe the contracts should show any conditions like these?

If you go to the Mun before you get the exploration contract, you never see the exploration contract.

You need to control each launch to not pass the next milestone if you want to get the contract.

but how do people know the details of the next contract without going outside the game? I only barely know them and I've been playing since before they were introduced.

You don't. You have to *barely* complete each one to see the next one. It's not a great system. I personally think at the bottom of these exploration contracts that open another one, they should have a quick description that tells you.

These are the things we work out in Beta.

[edit]

I did a quick comparison of two career approaches so we could discus, but by the time I posted this thread had been moved. and as what I'd written was more of a discussion than a question or tutorial I've started a new thread in GD http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/103613-What-is-your-initial-approach-to-career

I never got those incremental contracts before a few days ago. I finally flew my first rocket only a little past 5km, whereas I would usually make my first flight on up out of the atmosphere if not straight to orbit. I'm guessing you only get the incremental height record contracts for records you haven't made yet, and that means that playing slower gets you more money.

Yes, exactly. The contract heights are set each time you play (I won't spoil the altitudes unless you want me to). If you exceed the altitude for one of the "not yet seen" contracts, it will never show up. In fact, if you take zero contracts and launch straight into orbit, all those "fixed" contracts will disappear. You've already accomplished the goals, so they go away. The fixed ones act a little different than the procedurally generated ones in that regard...

I'm not sure if that's what you're referring to with the thread title.

Cheers,

I think currently there's only the height contracts and explore contracts that matter in that case. So just don't go anywhere before you have a contract for it ;)

Suggestion: Merge the height contracts into the "reach space" contract with individual goals. So the reach space contract would have then 5 goals, 4 for each height and one for space itself. That way they wouldn't be missed, especially for new players.

Hmm. That's a good idea.

I have a feeling these contracts were made before the multi-goals were created. Either that, or they were intentionally split out so that players who were already able to surpass intermediate goals didn't need to feel forced into smaller steps. (But funds!)

That's still food feedback. Maybe put that in the bug tracker.

Hi,

I thought I had a reach 11,000m and it dissappeared - it may have to do with the quicksaves I was just thinking or that idea just came to me; watch your quicksaves they may mess up mission structure???

I am restarting so I will keep watch on them.

I know it was just a typo, but that made me laugh :D

As has been said already, if you go over the height requirement for those contracts before even accepting them, they will disappear (or not show up at all if you haven't seen them yet).

EDIT: damnit, ninja'd :(
