How to tell which kerbal is the engineer or scientist or pilot?

I need to send my engineer out to repack the parachutes. How am I supposed to know which is which?

I am not sure if it will work but try returning to the space center clicking on the astronaut complex and then clicking the assigned tab. It should tell you who is on a vessle and then if they are an engineer or something else.

I don't know if that's the only way but it works so thanks. They should make it so you can tell without going back to the space centre!

Yes. As mrmcp1 said, unless I am missing something that's currently the only way to tell who does what job in flight. It's early days for this feature, but hopefully Squad will introduce different icons on the crew images, and EVA suits at some point.

In flight: open map view, press the little kerbal button on the right side of the screen (underneath the craft info button)
