How much science can I take with me?

Recommended Posts

I'm planning of sending a major mission to Jool system. Most probably it's going to be an armada of several vessels.

The plan is - to strip the Jool system of all (or the most of) its science (Jool + all 5 of its moons) ;) Which means - visiting all biomes and getting all the experiments.

That means I have to take A LOT OF STUFF with me. The problem is - I'm having trouble to do a checklist.

Is there any mod that I can rely on counting all the stuff?

And the main question - I need many command pods to carry all the surface samples with me, I'm wondering if there are any pods with bigger capacity for this?

The science library has not been updated for the new biomes yet.

There is no restriction on the total number of experiments you can store in a pod (as far as I know by 25.5.) as long as you do not bring doubles (e.g. two surface samples from the same planet/moon and biome).

The lab module can even store multiples of the same experiment-biome combos.

Good luck! :)

So, I can store all surface samples from all Jool's moons in a single lander can?

Yes and no. You can store as many *different* samples as you want, but if you want to return two from the same site (duplicates), you need two pods. It doesn't matter how many Kerbals the pod is built for; the only stock module that can hold duplicate results is the Lab. The same with any other experiment: ordinary pods can hold only one result per (situation * experiment * biome).

Yes, I don't need duplicates, just 1 sample per a biome per a moon =

5 x Laythe

4 x Vall

6 x Tylo

5 x Bop

4 x Pol

= 24 biomes.

Here's a list of what I have to do:

24 x surface samples

24 x EVA reports from surface

24 x EVA reports from orbits

24 x seismic scans

24 x temperature scans

24 x gravioli scans from surface

6 x Crew reports from orbits

6 x gravioli scans from orbits

24 x Crew reports from surface

+ 5 barometric scans (Laythe surface)

+ 6 barometric scans (Laythe and Jool atmosphere)

+ 6 atmospheric scans (Laythe and Jool)

+ 6 temperature scans from atmosphere (Laythe + Jool)

Did I miss something?

P.S. About crew reports - will 1 module hold crew reports from different biomes?

About crew reports - will 1 module hold crew reports from different biomes?

Yes, but you have to remove them via EVA and put them back in.

I would use two different pods, one to do the report and one to store all results - just to satisfy my paranoia of shuffling around all my results for every report. :P:D

There are also mods to move/collect all available results to a pod automatically.
