Simple but effective improvements to the Mk1 Cockpit IVA

Recommended Posts

Dear Squad,

I want to make a suggestion for a quite simple but yet effective improvement to the already good IVA of the Mk1 Spaceplane Cockpit IVA Model:

The areas marked with red borders impede forward visibility unnecessarily. The windows should continue to the front end, like the top part. Doing this alone would make a huge difference in increasing situaltional awareness during low altitude flight and landing.

Sideview is very limited due to the huge black panels covering 2/3 of the available space on the sides, which makes me sad. The windows should continue like the red lines indicate.

Of course, to make it consistent with the external texture, the window textures have to be extended as well.

And that's it, wouldn't even require much remodelling/retexturing work at all, just cutting out/extending features/textures which are already in place.

Of course this isn't a high priority request, but since Squad is working on the Cockpit IVAs anyway (Mk1 Inline, the new Mk3), I thought why not throw it in there as a little side project.

Cheers and merry Xmas,

BigNose

I never was one to complain about the blind spots in the mk1 pod. I was always to busy complaining about the other Spaceplane pods blind spots, you know where there isn't an IVA view what so ever.

Now onto the blind spots. Both affect the side view of the pod. The 2 in the back, would be harder to move simply because you need to move around the "Open handle" for crew entry. The front ones are in the way and do impact the pilots ability to see.

But I wouldn't be to unhappy about Squad never touching this part again. They JUST touched this part up with the mk2 spaceplane part integration, with a new outside texture.

Otherwise the side blind spots aren't much of a problem. They do impact your ability to see to the side-front, but not by much. If removed you would gain a little more awareness, but the console would still affect your vision of the ground.

Maybe if we get a full integration of all IVA views, they could just wipe the front blind spots without changing the inner textures. Less work, but it would make the mk1 IVA much less cluttered. Till then, I think a majority of players can manage ;D

I 100% agree. but don't stop at the MK1 Cockpit...

Yes, some of the others could do with some better windows too. I pitty the kerbal who has to sit in the bottom seat of a Mk 1-2 capsule. At least in the mk1 capsule, you have one tiny window.

Turns out being able to see is pretty important when driving a vehicle. Honestly, I don't know how the Kerbals manage it with some of their cockpit designs.

This actually only really applies to cars civilian land vehicles... aircraft, boats and rockets can do almost all of their navigation using instrument guidance :) It's amazing how often airplane pilots need to rely entirely on ILS in bad weather.

Thought about that after I typed it, but, darn it, I want to see the pretty scenery!
