More Rover Parts!

Recommended Posts

I think we need more ROVER and ONLY Rover parts. What I mean is maybe more "dedicated" parts. Like some chassis for the rovers. I also would like to see pods that are shaped like that of a car(like, say a Big Rig's "Pod" would look like the Exterior of one, of course. this would reduce part count and make my life easier). Lastly is more wheels. I know this sounds stupid, but I would personally like very stable, fast, and reliable ones. Thank you for reading!:D

What exactly do you mean by "fast"?

Try converting those m/sec speeds into miles/hour or km/hour (whichever you're more familiar with in real life) and then think about driving over rough wilderness (not a nice smooth paved road) at those speeds. You may find the gameplay boring, but rovers are already too FAST to be at all realistic, frankly. (Mind you, I do think there are issues with overly-fragile rovers, but it seems to me that this is because parts fail in exactly the same way and exactly the same speed whether they barely scrape the ground on a rover or smash head-on into each other with the momentum of a thousand-ton spacecraft behind them. It would be good methinks for Squad to take another crack at object collision logic; at minimum, separate collision resistance values for "normal" and "shear" collisions.)

I'm with you. Rovers are still kind of a fringe element. But seeings as Space planes, satellites and Space Stations just took a leap forward- it gives me hope Rovers won't be too far off.

As Srpadget said, speed is a little crazy as it is- but I'm willing to let that slide if one element was simply fixed: stability. Unless you build a super wide and long rover even on Kerbin, it has a tendency and almost desire to flip over. I had a 6t Rover going 20m/s flip over itself yesterday just because I put on the brakes. I was a bit sceptical that was realistic. Unless the Joker was driving it.

Speed is hard to see in the open spaces of Duna until you zip past your base at 50mph.

What we need is adjustable torque, suspension, and turning radius (?). What I'd love is analog torque for my flight stick. Having 100% or nothing isn't how I generally drive, personally.

Put a probe body on your rover and control it from there (put it on the front with its "up" vector pointing forwards). That way you have the navball to tell you how fast you're going :P

Along with a method of transport- they look all kinds of wonky riding on your rockets currently.

That's what fairings are for ;). Assuming of course you're not sticking them to the side of your lander or something :P

Proper stock fairings would be good though, but I think those would be necessary with the aerodynamic overhaul that's meant to be coming in 0.91 anyway.
