Problems with missions

So I have these two missions,

Test LV-909 Liquid Fuel Engine landed at Kerbin

and

Test LV-T45 Liquid fuel Engine

So my ships are Command Pod + Fuel Tank + one of those fuel engine above. I launch stage the engine and it doesnt complete

I've looked around and it says I need to succesfully land it first, so I add another stage and engine to launch me up to ~2000 meters release that stage, activate parachutes to land safely, and then I activate the mission engine's stage. Still not getting complete.

So what am I doing wrong?

Where do the contracts state you need to test the parts? You may need to launch to a certain altitude/speed, or even into orbit before you can test the parts. Additionally, you need to stage the engine in order to complete the contract. This can do if you've activated the engine already simply by editing the staging sequence in flight.

Finally, 'Landed at Kerbin' contracts don't even require you land. You can complete them from the launchpad.
