Can't click on buildings after hiring more kerbals

I'm playing in sandbox, I have some 12 or something kerbals already assigned and, since I'm running out of kerbonauts, I go to the Astronaut Complex, either from the Space Center, the VAB or the Launchpad to add some more. The kerbals add, and once they do, I can no longer access any buildings.

Ok, so I removed all applicants in the astronaut complex, hired new guys and the issue went away, at least so far.

For me, this always happens after I change someone's name who is also referenced elsewhere in the save. Like, if I rename someone I save from Orbit.

The only way to rename people is in the persistent file (or by a mod) so if you haven't been doing that then I'm not sure what it could be.

Nope, I didn't edit the savefile, so no idea what caused it. Fortunately, the solution was easy, once I thought of that.
