Your eyes are not deceiving you. This is a 100% Stock Helicopter!

Introducing the new Tri-Blade Rotor-craft Model 1

I Will admit it is not the prettiest or most practical thing ever made. However it is a fully functioning stock helicopter and I deserve credit for that :D

It also has a light cargo carrying capacity

IMPORTANT REMINDER!

If you do decide to carry cargo.... Make sure to keep it firmly secured. As I will not be responsible for damaged goods.

Get it for yourself here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/jxfbucpivdd2zxv/Jon%27s%20Rotorcraft%20Model%201.craft?dl=0

Instructions:

#1 Throttle to about 25% (that is just about all that is needed for flight)

#2 Use action group 1 to disable the rotor's brake

#3 Switch back to the helicopter as the rotors will be a separate craft following rotor decoupling

#4 Control from the probe core inside the front of the heli for the most stable flight.

#5 Have fun! Try not to exceed 20 M/S in horizontal flight and keep a close eye on Electric charge. If the electric charge runs out the helicopter is no longer controllable.

I will work on developing more practical and longer distance helicopters in the future.

WHAT EVER YOU DO... DO NOT RAISE THE LANDING GEAR!

I don't think it is particularly challenging to fly compared to other stock helicopters... But that being said its obvious that it is a flying death trap.

Depends on your piloting skills I guess. You could always try it out yourself :D

@Longbyte: Since the helicopter never goes faster than 20 M/S (Or should) The rover wheels have never been damaged in my experience. Only time its happened is when I crash it.

@Zekes: Stability issues in these types of craft can generally be fixed by more reaction wheels. It is kind of cheap I know but it works.

I do the same thing too -

However, I did just notive the three engines on the wingtips. Does it have a lot of fuel duration, then? how is the rotor mounted on the body?

The Fuel duration is surprisingly high for the specific impulse of the engines used. However due to KSP's wonky physics having them turn a propeller is much more efficient than for them to be in a standard VTOL configuration.

They only have to push at about 25% throttle to get the rotors spinning fast enough to produce enough lift for flight.

I tried a version using jet engines instead but that meant more mass spinning around. This made the helicopter far harder to control and produces a ton of smoke too.

Generally it runs out of electric charge before it does fuel. If you want to find out more about it I did post a craft file download so you can see how it works up close and personal.

Make sure to tell me if the link is faulty.
