I present to you: Blue Rover Outpost on the surface of Laythe. The rover can park under the base, rise up on struts, and connect to a docking clamp on the underside to easily transfer drivers and clean out science equipment. In the background is a spaceplane capable of transporting up to six passengers between surface and orbit.

I've made some mobile science rovers for kerbin that were essentially mobile processing labs with experiments and batteries and solar panels on them to go places-mostly the ground next to the runway-and then sit still and research. I have yet to get to the Mun, will probably eventually make a Munar flyby before going more places
