When do you think will we be getting UNITY 5 64bit? And when will this be put into KSP?

Recommended Posts

I know it's a bit vague as to when the ksp dev's will upgrade ksp once unity 5 is out, but what do you folks think? After modding my game this weekend and coming up against a lot of memory crashes, it really seems like that is the only solution now, to run ksp with quite a few mods and for it to remain stable. Discuss.

Whenever it is ready. Really.

As for modding, you have now reach the stage where you must practice discipline! Look deep into yourself, meditate, and seek for an answer. Control yourself and not let feelings takes over! No matter how cool that mod is, do not let it tempt you if you are already out of your RAM budget! Find the zen in your modding soul.

This discussion about Unity & KSP development has been moved to Suggestions and Development Discussion.

There's not much any of us can say about when Unity 5 will be released, except that it's in beta, so it should be SoonTM. You could check the Unity forums to see if there's any reliable information there. After that, it's up to SQUAD to see if it's better for KSP than Unity 4. From what I've heard, there would be no reason to stick to Unity 4 and many to update.

But it looks so pretty!!!!

I'd rather have all the existing bugs fixed... Then a move to unity 5.

Keep a Structured Development Methodology in play. Don't fast track anything!

(Assuming a structured development method is currently in place that is...)

I don't know anything at all about code, but perhaps fixing bugs on the current engine is a waste of time if a change in engine is planned anyway?

That's the thing - some of the bugs (or limitations, etc) are caused by Unity, and a good deal of 'em will likely be fixed BY the upgrade.

Of course it inevitably turns out that some of those actually are Squad's fault, but the upgrade will also shake 'em out of their complacency about those bugs. Hopefully.

Sitting around pounding on old bugs with Unity 4 is not going to fix the problems in the former category, ever, and won't eliminate the complacency for the latter category either.

Some (many) of the bugs have existed for a long time. Regardless of the core issues of these bugs, they need to be addressed. Addressing these bugs can be as simple as squad revealing that they are in fact unity issues or not.

If they are unity issues then fine. Get me in the waiting queue for unity 5.

If not, then... Hello... Time to reinvigorate the quality management methodology. Fix the bugs!

You should take a peek at the changes to the Support forums as of yesterday. There are revised (moderator- & admin-only) tags for [bug], [Not a Bug / Intended], and [Not Fixable / Unity Issue]. :)

Sounds good I'll do that!

Edit: that's a nice change to the forum, however I was expecting it to be added to the bug tracker as well.
