I usually ignore rescue missions, however....

You're gonna look Danger in the eye! Laugh in the face of Danger! Or maybe you welcome Danger?

I also ignore them most of the time (I'm running kerbin's space program in this save/universe, not someone else).

I like rescue contracts, myself, as for one, they do provide you with kerbals who already have a bit of backstory to themselves. There is no way I am not giving that little dude I rescued one more shot at getting marooned much further away from Kerbin the second time around.

They also help keep my rendezvous skills refreshed, especially when I have to be extra cautious. Not so easy to estimate distance when the kerbal remains a dot as opposed to something more substantial such as a station or asteroid.

The paycheck for that contract tends to be rather nice, as well. That can actually spell the difference between a bare-bones mission to Duna and all the bells and whistles you would prefer to take along. Like landing legs.

And if the captain of your mission to another planet is Danger Kerman, then you better strap in tight and leave the dress at home.

(I will say, it will feel a bit of a letdown if Danger turns out to be a scientist. If he were at least an engineer, then you know you would want him out there five seconds before a schedule burn repairing parts)

@Tw1: I look at marooned kerbals having been victims of errant ground-based parts tests and other R&D fumbles and foibles that they take initiative on when I am not looking, and happened only through the craziest of chances(as tend to happen with the kerbal space program), to manage actual orbit. And yes, they also just happened to be wearing their spacesuits, because...why not? True science is done with a spacesuit on.

I assume that the "rogue" Kerbals are either launched into orbit by R&D accidents or drunk administrators playing with their companies' SRBs.

I'm still hoping for a 'rescue Enemy Kerman' contract. He must be a Kerean defector

NEW KSP UPDATE: Rescue contracts replaced with hitlist contracts! Take out the enemy Kerman in orbit!

Now this is a much better interpretation! We know accidents can happen:

Rescue contracts are a little renewed now.

That would explain a few things. Like how I've gotten rescue contracts when I hadn't yet had an orbital crewed flight.

Why do kerbals go to space? Well, there was that one guy who got there by accident, and we needed to get him back.
