Jeb and Val get laid off about the time of the 1st orbital flight, due to the invention of the OKTO probe core. Jeb starts a junkyard while Val writes a book about being the 1st female astronaut and does the talkshow circuit for a while before fading into obscurity. Bob works himself out of a job very shortly, after which he retires and becomes a university professor. But Bill soldiers on forever, fixing flat tires and pumping gas. Not really a glamorous job, but a necessary one.
