model rockets

So forever ago, I saw someone build a model rocket (Estes for example) that was modeled after a ksp rocket, so I decided to do my own, and create this thread for all model rockets you want to share!

I am also deciding if my rocket should have delta wing style wings, or the AV-T1 winglets

I KNOW THAT THERE IS ANOTHER THREAD, THIS THREAD IS FOR SHARING YOUR ESTES ROCKET STORIES.

KSP-STYLE CATASTROPHIC FAILURES: I took a cheap Sky Streak rubber-band plane and mounted a mini engine on the back; RESULT: CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. On takeoff, the plane went up, did a crazy loop and flew into the ground. The motor burnt the tail to a crisp and left burn marks on the wings. My other failure was a small Estes model rocket (mini motor), the igniter kept falling out before it would start the motor. So I held it in place with: A dab of hot-glue. Big mistake. On ignition, the rocket went up about 2 meters before the motor exploded. I mean EXPLODED. The blast blew the nose-cone off and sent fire balls of burning rocket motor in every direction. Fortunately the rocket was a small E2X with a plastic engine mount, so besides charring the inside, it survived. My other failures include a 2-stage rocket that when I launched, it toppled over when the second stage ignited and flew about a quarter mile horizontally then the parachute refused to open, landing it in a parking lot, another twin stage whose parachute didn'tt open and it ended up sticking out of the ground like a arrow(it still has mud streaks all over the front), then finally two other rockets whose parachutes failed to open before hitting the ground. One dug a hole in the ground and the other split down the middle.

I packed a parachute too tight in a little free one that came with an Estes. I didn't know it was packed too tight, put a C motor in it. It went up, turned, came flying back down without deploying a parachute and got lodged in the dirt. The body was destroyed in the impact.

My little brother put an army man on a string connected to model rocket, it took off, flew until there was no slack left in the string and then started spinning like crazy two feet above the launch pad.

The sad thing is, my dad works at NASA, and he was with us both times.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
