i figure the bulk of it is bureaucratic nonsense. what little actual subject matter there is will be only a fraction of the data base, and most of that is going to be first hand accounts with no one to back up the story. there might be a handful of multiple-report type cases that you cant explain. but it will just be, these people saw something, and that would be it.

How exactly do you connect "UFOs" with "intelligent life out there" ?

If UFOs are really unidentifed, what makes one irrational hypothesis (aliens) more likely than any other irrational hypothesis (ghosts, gods, time travellers, communists, leprechauns...)? Surely if you have identified them as extraterrestrial objects, then they are no longer unidentified, right?

I gave the website a quick look; there really is a very large number of files from the 40's, 50's and 60's there.

Almost all of them come in the form of an official document that recorded the time, circumstances and details of the sighting. Some have a short text comment on stuff like what local air control had to say on the matter or whether there were other people reporting the same matter. Some of them are able to identify a real source, some speculate, some don't go into this at all.

As it stands, this has little beyond novelty value. But hey, if you're into that sort of thing...

If there really happened anything at any time in regards to ET visits, do you really think any government/agency would disclose it just because the law says so? Look at the world and think about what would happen if the people knew there were aliens. Humanity has been murdering each other over stories in books thousands of years old, following prophets and divine descendents, twisting these stories and using those names to gather followers and do their bidding. Now imagine there was even proof of something equally mind boggling.

You will have to drop your own space/alien-affine views for a moment though.

Lol people are not murdering each other over stories in books... it is all about ideology and power, either your ideology is on top and you and your family got power or mine.

I think it's not mind-boggling to think that we share the universe with beings far beyond us; religious people believe it all the time, for one. Why shouldn't everyone else be able to accept it if it turns out to be true? I doubt there will be any sort of mass panic; what would we panic over unless it was clear that E.T. posed an immediate existential threat? As an example, humanity has faced nuclear annihilation for decades, but there haven't been any nation-shattering panics over that.
