Boosters never want to attach to radial decouplers (preferring to clip into other parts)

Recommended Posts

It's always the same! Every time I try to place a rocket onto a radial decoupler it ignores the decoupler and sinks into whatever the decoupler is attached to. It takes many attempts to get the desired result. Why does this happen?

Don't know if it's exactly the issue here, or if your case is some bug that we haven't experienced yet, but:

The long boosters like the ones you are using are tricky sometimes. I would recommend using the radial decouplers (the ones with the 'spring') that hold the booster further away from the stack instead. And second, the boosters' attachment point is at your cursor; if your cursor is not within the bounds of the decoupler, you will be attaching to the main body, NOT the decoupler.

Get the camera view in position of the decoupler, preferring straight on, and not overhead, and place the curser with the SRB directly over the decoupler center. Get it exactly centered. If it is not, the SRB will either snap to the core directly, or get mounted on off center. Off center mountings will cause rotational issues.

I have had the same problem. Changing the camera angle helps, but I mainly find that I just have to keep playing around with it until I get it right. Bit frustrating.

Also I find using single symmetry works best. Once I have the booster attached to the decoupler, I then click on the decoupler with the booster attached and create a subassembly. (My subassembly folder has a lot of booster/decoupler combinations in it.) I then can go for the symmetry I need. Good luck.
