Crashing since 0.90.0

Recommended Posts

I have been playing Windows 32-bit unmodded KSP since version 0.12. It has [pretty much always been fine with 2 crashes in April last year. Since I updated to 0.90.0 on the 7th of Jan this year, it has been crashing every single time I play, no matter how simple the ship. Often it will crash when a ship has not even been designed yet. Usually when I press the exit button ingame when I leave the space station, or the recruitment building, etc. I play both modded and unmodded, and it has crashed both modded and unmodded, however recently I begun using the KerbalEngineer mod so I guess I should post in this support thread page.

I have 13 crashes in the past month, and I have always played on Windows 32-bit.

I am in the process of uploading the crash files to dropbox and will get a link to give to the devs when requested

System specs:

2.27GHz dual core i5

Windows 7

4Gb of RAM, however 1Gb is dedicated to graphics (supposedly)

32-bit OS

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5165 graphics card

New parts and other 0.90 features has added to stock memory print, bringing it to almost 2 Gb. 32-bit OS cannot address more than 2 Gb RAM to one application (without editing the boot options). So your problem is almost certainly memory-related.

In fact, it can be said that 0.90 and later releases does not support 32-bit Windows.

voodoogod, regarding your crashes, im getting them also, people are talking about stock game memoryleak, if you use mods, the game just crashes faster, because you start out with more used up memory..

1, Download the x86 version of this (aggressive saves more RAM at the expense of texture quality).

2, In the ActiveTextureManagerConfig.cfg, add a line - WAIT = TRUE - like so:

ACTIVE_TEXTURE_MANAGER

{

WAIT = TRUE

DBG = TRUE

###Section for global settings

....

3, Open a command prompt as administrator* and enter `bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072`. Then restart your computer. This basically tells Windows to increase the virtual address space available to applications to 3GB.

4, Use `-force-d3d11-no-singlethreaded -popupwindow` or `-force-opengl -popupwindow` as a launch option for KSP.exe (if your graphics card can support it)

Because you have 32bit OS (and hence roughly 4Gb RAM), Windows is taking up about half of that, leaving only 2Gb for KSP which is very slightly over what the stock game needs. But, if you add in any mods, you'll likely bump up the usage to over 2Gb and cause a crash. I hope this helps :)

*If you don't know how to do this, go to your start menu --> All Programs --> Accessories, right click on 'Command Prompt' and choose 'Run as administrator'.

ObsessedWithKSP, this adds more memory to ksp right?

But about that memory leak:

I was playing with FAR, DRE, Procedural Fairings, Realchutes, Kerbal Engineer, Alarmclock, preciseNode and BetterBouyancy, Agressive TM x86 installed only on my system (AMD FX 8350, Saphire Radeon HD 6850 2GB and 8GB DDR3 1866) and i started the game with 1.7GB of ram used. BUT every scenechange or vesselrecover the number increased. until i hit the 3.5 mark and know, the next swap to another scene will push me to my desktop. So now i downloaded the game, made a fresh install without ANY mods and i start at 1.9gb but nothing changed, its just a matter of time, until i hit the limmits. this is verry frustating and i despretly hope that someone knows a fix. Cause this stops me from playing.
