Build the biggest airplane (that can land)

Here\'s the Air Scorpion.

It\'s just a slighty bit bigger than Tim\'s jet thingy, measuring at around 12 tanks in length, but being wider at the front.

Important to note is that it doesn\'t use any mods whatsoever, and that it is launched from the runway like an airplane should.

It lands by deploying a considerable amount of parachutes and then using four landing engines + a few jets to gently take down in a diagonal angle, this makes it touch down at 5 m/s or so and it actually doesn\'t lose any parts despite it\'s massive size.

That\'s my best bet for now, this should get me to either first or second place.

My wingspan and length record still holds, but I can tell people are catching up, so I\'m now thinking about making a bigger one. Unfortunately for my slight case of OCD, they are going to start to get very ugly to get them any larger. Sorry guys :D

I know, but i went after mass, and the mass relation is about 1:1.5 for me.

Your stand now at the second place, the scorpion is a little bit bigger, I looked good at it and thats right. So succes whit your new plane.

I\'m not sure I quite buy that. We need an accurate measurement system.

Yes. I updated this topic, now are they (I think) no more problems.

And something else: I also maded my aircraft that landend. It have 8 engines, 2 landing slow down parachutes and a big steer system by the tail and in the front of the plane. Not the biggest airplane that can land but here it is:

If i had tim\'s craft i could calculate mass or something similar.

Right now i agree that his plane is longer, but the mass of the parts are just slighty in my favor, because it was my thought mass is the system by which \'\'size\'\' is measured.

For instance, each of those parachutes add 0.3 mass, that\'s only a few for one tank, and there\'s a lot. Engine weight too.

I suppose you have a point. After all, length and wingspan just mean it is long and wide - that doesn\'t make it bulky.

Also, for the longest flight challenge, you said \'all parts allowed\'. Damned Aerospace propellers come under \'all parts\', but as far as I can tell, they run out of fuel and keep going.

I\'d say for the distance challenge, stock parts would be the limit, and no aerospike/rocket parts, because then you can technically just go in orbit and have infinite \'\'range\'\'.

Except there is an altitude cap of 10Km. [i think, his writing wasn\'t all that clear when he said \'don\'t may go over 10Km\'.]

Now...

How the smeg am I gonna get this flying?

ptCyo.jpg

Add two identical sides to it with the same thick fuselage, then add downwards pointed rockets and hover the entire thing. ???

At least that works for me when i land, the Air Scorpion takes off at 130 m/s.

I don\'t have the dedication to counter that

Enjoy the first place you crazy maniac! :D

Winning!

In game, each passenger cabin is 0.6 mass, and each freight bay is 1 mass.

In RP, each passenger cabin carries 12 passengers, and each freight bay carries 40 tonnes.

Total pax: 24 Kerbals

Total cargo: 440 tonnes

And it handles very well.
