So I have been working with stock Helicopters...

So I used the same technology to make a giant mountain climbing truck.

As you can see it has 6 wheels powered by reaction wheel torque. It has two rearwards facing jet engines for extra power when climbing near 90 degree slopes. It also has a downwards facing jet to maintain traction when going up and down mountains.

The SAS torque of the wheels can also be used as a braking force when going downhill. This system even works at near 90 degree angles if used in combination with the down-force jet.

It was originally designed to rescue kerbals that were stranded on a very a high mountain where the air was too thin for helicopters and too rough of terrain for regular planes.

CRAFT FILE HERE: https://www.dropbox.com/s/w8jmcoqakuldfi7/JMT-Mountainclimber%201.craft?dl=0

Basic Directions:

DO NOT ENGAGE SAS ON THE WHEELS OR THEY CANNOT ROTATE.

Press space three times to decouple the wheels from the base unit. Switch to each using the [ and ] keys.

Use the Lalt+WASD keys to set them to spin autonomously. Before doing this however press the WASD keys to find what axis spins them in the right direction.

Switch back to the main unit and select "Control Here" from the probe core on the top of the truck.

Use A and D keys to steer.

Press 1 to activate the rearwards firing jet engines.

Press 2 to activate the down-force jet.

Press B to activate the light brakes.

Switch to each set of wheels and press S to stop their rotation. This acts as a heavier brake than pressing B.

Going over 25 M/S is dangerous but possible.

Don't Revert if crashed or moving. This breaks the game for some reason.

What a monstrosity!

I love it...

So how does it steer exactly? I couldn't see.

I did see a lot of SAS-units on top, pure-mega-SAS-power or is it articulated?

I've been waiting for someone to make a rover with bearing wheels. My mini bearing wasn't strong enough..

Great work man it looks very scifi!

So how do you accelerate? Jets? because I cant see you moving one wheel at a time..

Each set of wheels have a few reaction wheels on them. They can be set to autonomously spin using the trim controls. It can go about 15 m/s using this drive. Jets in combination with system can double its speed. The jets critical roll is to help push it up high slopes.
