How to add an engine fairing (shrouds) if one does not have one?

Recommended Posts

I could keep the LV-N fairings around by click-activating the engine (rather than through staging). However, after the next scene change they were gone anyways.

I seriously doubt that this can be tackled through config-editing alone.

I want some engines to have those shrouds that show up when u place a part below the nozzle of the engine. Does anyone know how to add engine fairings?

If you are asking what I think you are asking it's not possible. The Engine Fairing has to be built into the Engine Model in Blender (Or your favorite 3D modelling utility).

On some of my rockets, I have exposed engine bells on the second stage. To get rid of them in a fairly realistic manner- if I'm not worried about part count, at least- I'll add decouplers below them and attach an inverted nose cone to give them a more realistic, aerodynamic shape... even though it actually hurts the performance of the rocket a tiny bit. I don't know if this helps you or not, since you didn't say what the application is you're intending these engine shrouds for.

Taki is correct - engine fairings have to be included in the original engine model in the first place, and also configured properly in Unity + KSP PartTools. It's not something that can be tacked on after the fact by most users.

lextacy, which engine you are using? Is it a one from an add-on? (Not all add-on authors may know how to add engine fairings)

yea it is the ones from Chaka , I wanted to use them as ground fairings that would seal the launch clamps at the bottom, kinda like the Delta IV heavy launchers. This was stricly aesthetic and I think the procedural fairing idea might work actually
