Is there any reason to not use nukes for interplanetary anything?

Plan a maneuver at your periapsis; plan a second maneuver and shift it until it is at your desired time of transfer (ETA=08:15:23). Now add prograde to the first maneuver until the second one sits squarely on the periapsis.
You'll have to write a much more lengthy detailed tutorial (with pictures) if you want us to understand that..

I see how that works, and am shocked that a) it does work and B) I haven't thought to do it :)

I'm going to play around with this next time I play and see how it works, though I tend to just make sure my ship has enough engines to not have to do 2 burns.

More precision is always good if you can do it, but it's not worth putting too much effort into it.

That. Is. Genius.

Off to try it now with a really low TWR craft...

Thanks everybody. How often have I seen something and said "Why didn't *I* think of that?" -- it feels good to be on the other side for once.

No I don't. It becomes obvious when you try it. But anyway, here's a gif (running too fast and I can't figure out how to change it).

Don't only look at the node, check the node editor as well.

You can do that!? I clearly haven't played around with the maneuver node system enough. I finally just executed my first successful gravity assist yesterday. :)

Right click on an open manouver node will close it and show you 3 buttons. A red cross up top, which deletes the node. And bellow, 2 buttons that shift the manouver node in time, by 1 orbit (right 1 orbit in future, left 1 orbit in past).

With mods, you can shift manouver nodes in time on an actual slider, up to 1 second at a step
