Only 88%? YAY! They used to be 95%+ :D

I\'m glad to see them falling down (as I type this on Win7 >_>)

More and more Macs are being bought, and there\'s more and more devices coming with Linux preinstalled... It\'s things like this that keep driving Windows down.

Exactly as I predicted :D Except for Linux. I didn\'t foresee android :P

I only see businesses going Mac in the future because of so many students who use macs right now.

Plus the whole totally unreliable part.

Technically speaking Android is a Linux OS...

It\'s built on a modified Linux kernel...

Yes I know, that\'s what I meant. I didn\'t foresee Linux every really taking off as a common OS, which is what I meant by 'I didn\'t foresee Android'

No. She was not very amused when she came in and the antivir was running (not exactly 'WTF IS THIS I WANT TO GO TO THE INTERNET!') and even my mother thinks that the craptop is now virus-free. My sis will now use it for online banking...

Alright now that\'s a serious risk.

If all they use it for is email, music, facebook and youtube, seriously just put Ubuntu on there.

They\'ll bitch and scream at first, but there is no reason they can\'t figure out how to make it work on their own.

There\'s really like nothing to learn except where the icon is.

It\'s got Viruses, and she uses it for Online Banking?

Back up any music or media she wants, and move the whole system to Ubuntu, or just do a fresh Windows install.

Heck, get OSx86 and turn it into a Hackintosh...

If it has supported hardware for Hackintosh, go for it. She\'d probably love you since Mac\'s are just soooooooo cool and hip and awesome >->

I thought Hackintosh would run on pretty much any Intel CPU...

How old is she?!

I had a basic knowledge of a PC when I was 9.

Well it depends on a number of things :l

Apple only recently started using Intel, so if it is an intel cpu then any of the more recent OS\'s should work fine.

But as others mentioned you have to worry about the Mobo, GPU, and since it\'s a laptop don\'t forget about the Wi-Fi card :l

I put Hackintosh on my desktop, but OSX didn\'t recognize my Wi-Fi adapter chipy thing so everything worked except internet >_>

There was no chance of hardwiring this desktop short of running ethernet up along the stairs :P

Apple is very picky about their hardware, they have a reason for it, but it makes porting it to our machines a pain

This happend to me except it was my ethernet ports.

It also didn\'t recognize my microphone and headphone ports...

So I ended up having to backup my files (again) and get another hard drive.

My parents were pissed that I wrecked my computer...

Personally, if I was you, I would have given up. It sounds like they don\'t have a clue about computing. Running in Linux or OSX (hackentosh) would be good, as there are very few viruses for those systems.

(offtopic : This sister of yours sounds like a friend of a friend. They are often giving him tech advice for everything. If they say to you that they are helping him, prepare to wait at least 3 hours before anything happens.)

You couldn\'t just wipe the drive and install windows or something? That\'s what I did with my partition

Wouldn\'t allow me for some reason.

Might of downloaded from a site that offers virus downloads...

It\'s alight though, my parents weren\'t that mad since I paid for the HDD with my own money.
