1. A contract to rescue a kerbal and debris popped up and since the pay was good and new crew members for free is always nice:
2. Can only speak from my experiece, but the openGL mode plus TextureReplacer seems to do some magic. My game never goes above 2gig according to task manager, after hours of play.
3. this tiny thing can go from a 40x40km orbit to surface and back using a spark
4. You might want to review what you wrote there, approach it a bit more from the scientific than the propaganda direction (hint: underground tests have been done to prevent atmospheric contamination) @K^2 the atmospheric model is maybe a bit too simplified, it's not a single, uniform layer. The energy coming in will only hit the ground to a small percentage.
5. i'm not sure if i read that right or there's a typo, but when 4σT14 = 4σTa4 and Ta = T0 shouldn't T0=T1=Ta which then means all temperatures are the same ?
6. you don't have to launch the game through CKAN to play with mods but if you persist on doing so, you can add the commands (-force-opengl -popupwindow or the other) in settings/command line in CKAN.
7. Just create a desktop shortcut go to properties and add either -force-opengl or -force-d3d11 to the target, so the final target line should look similar to "C:\Yourkerbalfolder\KSP.exe" -force-opengl -popupwindow or "C:\Yourkerbalfolder\KSP.exe" -force-d3d11 -popupwindow the -popupwindow is optional, it makes ksp go windowed fullscreen. When you start ksp with the modified shortcut, it should run in OpenGL, or dx11, depending on what you picked.
8. Looks like running out of memory to me. You could try to run KSP in dx or openGL which could help reducing memory useage. Add "-force-opengl -popupwindow" to your KSPshortcut to see if it helps.
9. When MM hangs on startup, i usually delete all the ModuleManager files (configcache/configSHA/Physics/Techtree) except ModuleManager itself, fixes hangs most of the time.
10. For that selfassembling base, i just wondered ... is there anything remotely similar in existance here on earth ? Something like a container you drop somewhere, come back 2 weeks later and have a 4-room appartment with colour tv and a filled fridge, ready for moving in ?
11. Took some time but now i have finally a setup (modwise) that runs nice and also found some motivation to play some KSP. Here's last days 'work'
12. No keyboard detected. Press F1 to continue.
13. That will be a difficult task, considering we are unable to understand some old writings made by humans. Heck, even the SETI message couldn't be decyphered by a lot of scientists. That is with a common ground ... planet, species and all that. So even when the way of communication (sound) is the same with the aliens, i wouldn't have a good idea where to start.
14. Power storage on a larger scale only makes sense with a huge percentage of renewable 'free' energy. So a super efficiency isn't the top priority at start, that will come with time. In germany gas made from coal was used for long times, it was almost 50% hydrogen and there was some smelly stuff mixed in so you could notice it in even smallest concentrations. Given some water and power and a bit of bioreactor you could make methanol pretty easy with hydrogen and the carbon components from the biochain. So for larger scale stationary simple hydrogen based electrolyse/fuel cell doesn't sound too bad, or, like in the OP, for offshore windparks that aircompression seems to be good too. I think there isn't a one-fits-all solution, a healthy mix should be the best approach.
15. How would changing humans behaviour artificially extending a current ice age ? We probably acclerated the process of warming, not slowed it down... so basically, if you want to have mother nature take over the rudder totally, shouldn't mankind do all it can to stop it's influence ?
16. The old BBC version from THHGTG was nice, looked a bit trashy, but was closer to the books than the movie imho. Dune, the movie from the 80's, was also great.
17. look at those, they're classified as animals actually, and can survive a trip to space
18. oh, wow, did you see this link in the bbc article ?
19. It was a long way from Gutenberg to a colour laser printer. When we get the same improvement range for 3D printers, what might be possible ?
