  1. One thing I didn't get about the tsunami is HOW WERE THEY NOT EXPECTING IT??? Seriously, these guys obviously know their astrophysics, so don't they realize that WATER PLANET + VICINITY TO HUGE BLACK HOLE= MASSIVE TIDAL WAVES? It's not that hard, makes me wonder why they even bother sending a ship there in the first place...
  2. But why would the treaties apply to something that is clearly not meant to be a weapon? Do NERVAs have a large enough nuclear material content to cause significant fallout? Also, why are RTGs not banned by the treaty?
  3. So, we know that the technology for the NERVA has existed for a long time now, and fully functional test engines were built. Now we all know how much easier Interplanetary travel is with these things, so how come they have never actually been applied to a real space mission? Is it because of radiation concerns?
  4. Not about Edmund's planet, but is it possible to have 'solid clouds' like Dr. Mann's planet? I guess if the atmosphere is thick enough, but wouldn't that be a problem for living there?
  5. Well, while nukes don't prevent proxy wars, they DO prevent a full scale war between superpowers, which would be unimaginably deadly and costly, and probably cripple the world for centuries. Imagine what the Cold War would have been without nukes. Probably not so cold...
  6. 6/10 Good air to ground, but slightly old.
  7. Congratulations on their second successful launch! (As long as they don't use this rocket for launching nuclear warheads, it should be fine...)
  8. Any mod with 5m parts or larger (probably KW or Space Y), then some of the spaceplane fuselages from B9 (I love their futuristic designs), and maybe an optional extension to the tech tree: Interstellar mod, so that when you advance to the modern tech you can then go into future tech! And to make warp drives actually necessary, other solar systems!
  9. Don't get me wrong, I don't like North Korea's government or policies, but laughing at them for 'being late' is quite ridiculous, considering that at least they actually HAVE a space program unlike a huge amount of other countries who don't. Also consider that since they barely have any international relations, most of their stuff they have to make it themselves (albeit much of it is copied from Chinese or Russian stuff). Obviously the country should have other priorities than rockets, but I don't think any of those will be addressed any time soon anyway...

    Space Engine

In fact, there is a thread like this, but it's hidden somewhere a few tens of pages back... I know because once I made a thread exactly like this, and it was merged with the previous one (which wasn't anywhere in the first 10 pages).
  11. For me it depends on what the mission is. To bring heavy payloads to orbit, a rocket is definitely the way to go, as there's no way to fit some things in a plane's cargo bay. However, spaceplanes (once they're fully tested that is) tend to be much more reliable and safer than rockets (no complex staging, struts, etc.), so to bring crew and small satellites to orbit they are much better, especially as you don't jettison anything.
  12. Well, for the Galactic Empire, it is frequently mentioned they had the largest star fleet in history, so large that in fact it was never even close to being fully destroyed (its "remains" are still around/repurposed 30 years after the end of the Empire, in Ep VII, obviously used by the First Order). So if they wanted to make sure nobody entered a planet a huge orbital blockade of Star Destroyers would do the trick. Then fill the surface with AT-ATs, and, if they are truly dangerous enemies, send Darth Vader...
  13. I just use a different sandbox save with hyperedit as a simulator...
  14. So I was launching a small-medium rocket, with a small reusable Mun shuttle as the payload, but then I realized that forgot to add lights. Instead of reverting, I just throttled back and let the rocket slowly descend and touch down safely near the pad! Has this ever happened to you? When you forget something and just come back and land the whole rocket (I had only staged the SRBs). Maybe the pilot also forgot his keys or something.
  15. I'm going to say Eeloo or Eve, as solar panels don't work too well there (on Eve due to thick atm.). Now I'm not sure which is best for mining, but I'm going for Eeloo...
  16. -Activating ray shields -Warming up Laythe -Adding Blutonium-238 -Packing mystery goo -De-orbiting Gilly -Creating explodium
  17. Did you know that rockets actually use clouds to get to space? You see, a rocket needs something solid behind the engines for them to push on, so clouds provide 'stepping stones' for the rocket to get to space!!!!
  18. Yes, Scott Manley in 'Interstellar Quest'. Even though obviously he used mods.
  19. 8/10, very useful. DOUBLE ROTORS!!!
  20. Ok, this is how the game will be played. Post a picture of any KSP planet, or moon, or whatever (but not asteroids). The idea is that you have to make it as hard as possible to see what place it actually is! You can use anything you like to make it as different as possible from what it actually is (NO photo editing), and the next answer has to guess where it is. It is recommended that when you post your picture you put your answer in a 'spoiler' thing. You can use planets from mods as long as you state which mod it is. At the moment it is just KSP planets, but later it could be expanded to other games and real life as well... I'll start: Where is this? (Made it a little easy for the first one...sort of) Answer: EDIT: If you want to make it extra hard, post a description, sort of like a riddle, instead of the picture...
  21. Umm.. Aren't nukes in space banned by an International treaty? Unless you mean something else by "hanging over".
  22. What do you mean by this?!? Are you expecting the Moon to have a 365 day orbit? There is no logic in this theory. If they were so advanced, why didn't they mine asteroids and such instead of coming all the way here, in the solid planet that requires the SECOND highest amount of delta-v to get to orbit from in the entire solar system?
  23. Are you sure? I'm pretty sure if you click "shutdown engine" and then "activate engine" the ignition sound plays each time... Maybe it only happens if you switch vessels and then switch back, I can't quite remember right now.
  24. It's like a free online simple version of KSP . It even has nearly the same style Ap and Pe markers!
  25. I think that the reason that ships in Star Wars fly like there is no gravity, is because there is none for them. It is obvious that they have gravity manipulation technology, as their ships have gravity while in space, and land vehicles float around the surface, so they just ignore gravity and fire their engines where they want to go.
