I just got the new version of KSP, after using 1.0.5 for pretty much forever. It runs pretty well so far, though I only played the first bit of career. I decided to push for the 4 starting missions first, and in my third launch (the first didn't leave the launchpad and not count, how unfair!) I got into space. For a short while. Due to unfamiliarity with the weakness of chutes, I lost mine on the way down only about 6km up, so I eyeballed a suicide burn with the remaining fuel. Let's just say that any landing you can walk away from is a good landing. EDIT: Somehow this convinced 6 people to take a tour up to suborbital trajectory. Kerbals...

Ooh, and on the parachute thing a few pages back, I currently have a class on database design and although I don't know how they do it now, it seems to me it should be possible to do it with 0 bytes for an undeployed parachute, only the kerbal name for a destroyed one and then quite a bit (relatively) for one that is currently deployed. But you don't usually have thousands of chutes deployed at one time, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Adding my reasons to the list here: University requires a lot of study time, funding it requires a lot of job hours, and most of my reading inbetween is now on r/HFY. One of the reasons I barely participate on the forum is also that I don't play KSP anymore: A single install without mods is all I can spare on the weakling SSD that my current laptop has, and my laptop can barely run it even at worst graphics, and I am thoroughly out of the flying practice and not even trying airplanes anymore. At least I recently finally actually bought the game instead of using my old pirated pre-1.0 stuff (that actually ran reasonably well on my laptop) and then 1.0 and 1.1 (which... didn't nearly as much) Also, I suffer from 'They changed it, now it sucks' syndrome, more so with things I did back halfway through high school then way less for a few years... Anyway, I am very happy to see my favorite part of the story develop, and proper science done on the Kerm and their Keepers!

More thrust that the rounding error of a starwisp = anything above 1/1000th or so the thrust of a starwisp. You might want to change that, seeing how the ramscoop is obviously meant to have more thrust. I suggest replacing starwisp with the Pion thing, or change the sentence to 'enough thrust that that of a starwisp would be a rounding error' or something like that. Also note that Ramscoops have a maximum speed of about 0.18c due to the inherent limits of energy in fusion reactions and the fact you need to speed up all the hydrogen you want to fuse.

Awesome chapter once more! I was listening to a filk playlist as I was reading, and while reading this last sentence one of the songs had this nice horn blast. In my mind kerbal trucks now have manually blown, medieval style horns slung to the side!

...said no one, ever Heh, while you were still launching it, I was trying to make a cheap knockoff! My computer died when I tried to launch it, and then after I simplified it I could barely launch it and it was totally uncontrollable and my only hope was to go meet the moon and get a hell orbit until I can be refuelled. Eventually I ended up killing the ship by docking something wrong and somehow clipping somethings, then blowing it up when undocking...

Finally, I have made it to the end! Wow, not reading the forum for a month or 3 sure creates a lot of work...

Hi all! I've recently started playing again, and I'm still playing 1.0.5. Now I lost my modded installs with my laptop last year, which is one of the reasons I stopped playing. I'm trying to restore the mods I had, but some mods only let you download the newest version which may not be compatible with 1.0.5. Does anyone know where to find a copy of these mods which is old enough to be compatible? KJR Mechjeb/KER

Sadly, that one seems to have been discontinued. I have followed it for a while, but it seemed not to get anything new
