  1. Both of the KSP tech support questions I asked left the forum front page without any answers or even votes... to be fair, my computer may be haunted, as the bugs were really weird.
  2. I was assembling a spacecraft to go to Duna. I already launched the command module, and I then launched a fuel module to dock with it. Once in Kerbin orbit, I noticed some odd things. Mechjeb's auto burn was not working at all. I manually made a manuever node to rendevous. When the bar turned green I pressed x as usual. The delta vee read out continued to change at about 5 m/s^2! I had to make constant course corrections, and but eventually, I made it to the command module. It was then impossible to dock, as my spacecraft would randomly accelerate away from the module at 5 m/s^2 whenever I burned towards it, even when i shutdown the engine and disabled RCS. This is not an orbital mechanics thing, I have docked hundreds of times and never seen anything like this at such a short distance, even at 100 meters I cannot rendevous. I tried to switch to the command module, but it too began to randomly accelerate, though interestingly only after I started moving it. In order to timewarp, I must press period several times, because I get "can't warp under acceleration" over and over again. Rotation also is wonky, even if mechjeb is off, and regardless of RCS. At the same time this bug appeared, I also got a bug with commnet display, where no settings except "network" show anything, and "network" is a strobe light of green lines that constantly flash.   3. Surprisingly, I tried it out and the whole mod works fine in 1.8.1! The effects look really cool. @Nertea I think the fusion and antimatter drives come way too early in the SIMPLEX tech tree though.

  5. Lol ksp isn't going to be ported to a new engine when a second game is being worked on and the current engine is fine and that would break all mods. They could tease some KSP 2 planets by adding them in an update, for example giving Eeloo a moon.

  7. Veritasium's recent video on asteroids was bad, and even worse he's a trusted science communicator. We absolutely could deflect a 10 km asteroid with 5 years warning, and have had the capacity to do so for many years. He points out that because asteroids are so massive, it would take "a century" to move them. However, what he fails to realize is that in space distances you only need a 1m/s change to divert the trajectory by 30,000 km a year. He also just brushes over the proposed solar sail solution because we've supposedly never made them before... except we have. Many groups of astronomers and engineers do not at all share the guy he interviewed views. As for the nuke solution, he correctly points out that blowing up an asteroid would merely cause it to reform- except that in real life nukes would be deployed near an asteroid or on a hard part of its surface to propel it with the explosion project orion style, not to blow it up directly.
  8. A surface sample mission isn't really needed for finding atmospheric life, it would add extra complexity and danger to a mission. As Venus is resurfaced by volcanic activity every few millions of years, you would have to drill really deep and in just the right place to search for microfossils.
  9. The next DLC should add a new gamemode similar to career but instead of contracts, you earn money by racing with one or more AI space agencies based at the other launch sites. You could spend money to try to steal their technologies, and both you and the AI agency could even use missiles to destroy space center buildings. The goal would be to be the first to plant a flag on every body in the Kerbol system.

  12. Given that a single Starship has more volume than the ISS, and the landing crew is at most 4 people, couldn't they just live in a preposisitoned starship for a year or more? Heck, why even bother with SLS at all for this? Use it for an outer planets prove. Given its launch cost of 1-2 billion dollars, you could send literally hundreds of people to the moon on Starship in 2024 for the same price as sending 4 via SLS. Also, if they still aren't finished ONE SLS after a decade, how can they be expected to have a launch cadence capable of supporting lunar habitation? SpaceX has started building multiple rockets of similar size, and these will be ready with just a year or two. SLS is built for a one time heavy payload, like maybe a Pluto orbiter or Mars-Earth transfer habitat, not for supporting a space station.
  13. The Lunar X prize originally started in 2007, had dozens of teams, and a deadline of 2014. Now, 6 years later, and 13 years after the competition started, no team has landed on the moon and only a couple are even left. Should google have done something differently, were teams just unlucky, or were there common engineering problems they encountered?
