  1. Welcome to the forums! Glad to hear you've been enjoying the game.
  2. As the contest is now over and the winner has been announced, this thread has outlived its usefulness and shall be closed. That said, feel free to make your way over here and congratulate the winner for their entry
  3. He'll most definitely be missed. My condolences go out to his friends and family. I do like the idea of him being memorialized in KSP in some way. Undoubtedly he's had a profound impact on a lot of people here and inspired many a dream of reaching for the stars, whether literally or figuratively.
  4. Looks like there's quite a lot of good information in this thread Would any of our experts here be willing to write up a general tutorial on how players can use FAR's stats panels to make good spaceplanes (or planes in general)? I think it be extremely handy for people who are new to the mod and might not know how they can use all the different numbers to their advantage. EDIT: I've since been made aware that there's already some documentation on the FAR wiki, which I'll link to on the Drawing Board to give it a little more exposure. Still, having the basics explained from a few different approaches and perspectives might help as well, so if any of you feel you could do a good job, feel free to take a crack at writing up a tutorial of your own.
  5. Kulebron still checks into the forums, from what I see on his profile. Since I helped him out with the project when he was originally writing it all up, I'll shoot him a line and see if he can put it back up somewhere EDIT: On further investigation, it appears the URL has been changed slightly from the original, but it's still online. I've made a small edit to the OP to correct it, and will also adjust the link on the Drawing Board accordingly to minimize confusion.
  6. Definitely approve of this. As someone who strives to keep a close eye on the Gameplay Questions and Tutorials subforums in particular, I personally believe that our community is at its best when we're trying to build each other up, and I'm glad to say that I see many positive examples of that in there every day
  7. Gotta love the Intruder. I'm rather partial to replicas of real craft, myself, and this looks like a quite well-done one
  8. Still working my way through this, (I really should devote more time to thoroughly reading over these Mission Reports in the near future) but I have to say I'm enjoying this immensely. The writing is quite good, and the tone has just the right balance between whimsical humor and serious reporting that I personally think is important to the "kerbal" mindset. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this tale as it unfolds
  9. For the Spacecraft Exchange specifically, we do have the perennial "craft showcase" threads that basically already serve that purpose, though they do occasionally get snowed under by the single-craft / creator threads. That said, it's certainly an interesting idea, and one I've seen implemented without too many problems on other forums across the 'Net. Won't make any promises, but it's definitely something we'll consider
  10. One option you may want to consider is integrating the rover and the lander into a singular unit, like I did with one of my personal favorites: Granted, that design in particular wasn't designed for a two-way trip, at least not from Duna. Still, it might give you a few ideas. EDIT: Ninja'd!
  11. Welcome to the forums! Glad to hear you've been enjoying the game. I'm sure the creators of the add-ons you've enjoyed would love to hear that you're enjoying their labors of love, so it might be worthwhile to find their development threads and share your appreciation for a job well-done. Other than that, feel free to settle in. You can share tales of your favorite and most memorable missions, put up screenshots and / or files of some of your favorite designs in our showcase threads, answer questions (or even ask a few of your own, if there's still that one little issue you're having trouble getting past), or even admire some of the other users' Fan Works (or even share ones you may have made yourself). Enjoy, and happy landings!
  12. Hmm... This looks like it's meant to be more of a craft showcase than a challenge as such. Moving
  13. Ah, that makes sense. Must've just been the way my brain parses things.
  14. Welcome to the forums! Even if you've been around a while, it's only fair to give you a formal welcome since you've "decloaked." Hope you've been enjoying the game so far. Feel free to ask questions, answer other people's, or even just share your accomplishments with the rest of the fanbase.
  15. Indeed, this thread has been inactive for quite some time, so I'll be closing this. Pay attention to your timestamps, everyone! (That said, Levelord, if you ever come back and feel the need to update this design for the latest version, feel free to request this thread be reopened.)
  16. Welcome to the forums! Hope your mission to Eeloo goes well. Keep us posted!
  17. I could definitely get behind more procedural terrain generation. I've been playing around with SpaceEngine a fair bit recently, and I'm very impressed with the way proc-gen can produce interesting and highly varied terrain even on fairly low settings. They wouldn't need anything quite as intensive for KSP (as rendering terrain to quite the same level of detail takes quite a bit of time), but having something along the same lines would work quite well I believe.
  18. Welcome to the forums! If it's an issue of learning how to dock different components together (or just learning to dock in general), you may want to take a gander at a few of the docking tutorials I've compiled in the Drawing Board, which is conveniently linked through my signature (as well as Claw's). You may also want to browse through some of the others as well, whether you need help with other matters or just to get some new ideas. And, of course, if you run into anything that gives you particular trouble, feel free to ask questions -- undoubtedly someone among our helpful and well-informed users will have answers for you. Hope this helps!
  19. Welcome to the forums! Looks like the others have you mostly sorted out, but feel free to ask more questions if you still have 'em. As Pecan has already mentioned, you may also want to take a look at some of the tutorials and other resources included in the Drawing Board, which is conveniently linked through my signature; I try to collect something for everyone and everything, so hopefully you'll find something that might be useful, whether right now or for future missions. Hope this helps!
  20. Unfortunately, it seems that I haven't given enough reputation to other people since the last time I gave some to you. Nevertheless, I'd say this is definitely looking like it'll be Drawing Board material; it's almost like the manual that KSP doesn't (yet) have. Well done (A small note, though: May want to change the title to "Introduction to Construction." "Induction" isn't strictly wrong per se, but goint with "introduction" might clarify exactly what this is about to people who might be quickly scanning the titles in, say, a long list of potential materials.)
  21. Dropping this in Add-On Affairs, as it seems to be discussing a third-party idea rather than something for our official sites IIRC, the idea of a "download manager"-type program specifically for KSP mods is something that's been brainstormed in the past, but I personally haven't really kept my finger on the pulse enough to know if anything concrete ever came out of those discussions. I'm sure some of the more add-on-savvy users will be along shortly to help fill in the information gaps, though.
  22. It's the original poster and they're stating their intentions to update their original design, so we'll allow it in this particular case. Also, please be advised that we have the Report Post function so that these things can be handled discreetly if need be.
  23. I'm going to second capi's recommendation. I still have trouble with building a proper spaceplane, but I've had some success with building traditional airplanes using those guidelines in the past.
  24. Alright, ladies and gentlemen, can we please keep this discussion on the topic at hand, and not the faults (perceived or otherwise) we might see in one another's attitudes and play styles? Seriously, it's been getting out of hand lately, and not just in this thread. We don't want the whole "gameplay vs. realism" debate to turn into the same sort of issue "manual vs. autopilot" used to be all the time.
