  1. I have the same problem. I experienced it several times in my current modded save. Wanna know what Space Station One is! edit: using ksp_x64.exe, mods are KER, MJ2, RT, SCANsat, USI Life & tools, contractpacks bug: on entering tracking station from KSC no button is clickable, esc doesn't take me back to KSC, either "Space Station One" is the only flight listed with 99d99h99m MET or no flights at all are visible in the list on the left. the map view looks crowded with the actual flights from the current save, but no interactions are possible.
  2. just make it the other way around: start with the island runway, later buy VAB, SPH etc on mainland.
  3. of things to come. It's a log cabin...
  4. sounds like a great mod. on the title I thought about auto-screenshots on achieving stuff. first flight, first crash, first in-atmo-disassembly etc.
  5. snark is right, that's normal behavior while changing SOIs. nothing to worry about. except when you dare to warp through a SOI-change, there's a good chance that the projected orbit changes drastically (though, 5x to 50x warp can be okay depending on speed)! I use KAC with 0-5 seconds margin on every SOI change to avoid those hickups getting problematic.
  6. I know that problem, my early rescue crafts look like this, too. Pro tip: the pilot doesn't mind where s/he sits. shuffle the pilot to the crewcabin right away, so you have room in the capsule. If you do multi-mission-crafts like me, keep a scientist handy to restore those nasty goo and mat-bays...
  7. MechJeb (and KER too, I guess) has the feature to show you "dV spent", "drag losses" etc. You can try out a simple rocket and look for the best ascent. You'll find out that you want to do gravity turns starting as low as possible. if you point your nose too far away from prograde at speed while in mid-thick atmo, your rocket will flip for her "Salto Ascendale" and that will either cost you a good portion of your dV or the whole launch.
  8. lol this is so kerbal... i think you'd spend way more on a sole rescue mission than you would gain. if you can't turn back time (load old quicksave), she could be rescued wit a later mission, which travels in the general direction and can pick her up on route to duna or so. perhaps she'll enter kerbins soi in a few years, then rescue her on her flyby...
  9. Hah, I knew it! if you don't want to go the "official" casemodder's way, you can improvise with rubber bands, window insulation tape and the occasional drop of superglue. helped me a lot, I once even suspended my HDDs ...
  10. wow, many interesting ideas, but tl;dry. will try to catch up on that. Arthur was the last human to leave earth, so the "biological program" inside his head (why not in the rest?) was far closer to completion than in Trillian, who left Earth earlier with Zaphod... OT later, have to make cookie dough
  11. You're right with the first part, I should have added a disclaimer and some ground rules like: opening the case and fiddling inside can void your warranty and may harm you or your hardware. If you don't know how the different basic electronic components (i.e. resistors, capacitators, ICs, diodes etc.) look, don't touch anything! don't touch any moving part! beware of hot parts, check carefully! if possible, use a non-static insulating glove, electric-insulation, not temperature-insulation. if you don't have this option use some plastic (sharpie or so) to check for vibrations. if this is not an option only touch clearly insulated parts or grounded case-/structural parts. Don't un- or replug anything while system is running, for matter of clarity, not even USB (actually this should be fine but just to be sure). never ever, sorry, NEVER EVER TOUCH ANY CAPACITOR!!! not while running, not for an hour after power down. Don't short-circuit anything, therefore don't use any conducting material to touch stuff (e.g. metal, pencil lead, skin...).... this list could go on for pages, but I'm neither willing nor able to write a "complete idiot's guide" (hm, rather "Complete idiot's guide", "complete Idiot's guide" or "complete idiot's Guide"??), so yeah: be careful, know what your doing or learn about that stuff, use common sense (anyway), think before doing something, rather be save (consult repair service) than sorry (get new computer or pacemaker). If you don't have anything to add to the above list, DON'T OPEN THE CASE! In the end I still think some hardware problems can only be figured out (or at least faster) by checking a running system. but yeah again, be careful.
  12. lol so, I did some aerodynamics testing last night. found out that stock ksp needs interstage fairings and I meanwhile need ProcFairings. (or am I missing a trick here?) btw why can't I put struts on fairing bases? and why do I feel better to ditch the fairings pretty early in atmo, than risking a salto ascendale? and then CONFETTI !!!! stock fairings are so broken...
  13. how comfy are you with touching parts of your running system? That's how I find noisy parts. most often it's a tiny vibration, that loosens screws and get's worse over time. touching the component can dampen this vibration. sometimes you need to tighten the screws or put in some dampening washers. fans can be checked by slowing them down (software/bios) or unplugging them (power off for that!). HDD that are suspiciously noisy outside the case should be checked for internal mechanical errors (e.g. CrystalDiskInfo). ahh, I just remember, are you sure it's not a loudspeaker? I had random stuff coming over my beeper in a old system. and now I have interference from my graphics to my soundchip, which is really annoying. Last resort for me was always a complete troubleshoot: disassemble everything, put 3 parts together, start, listen, recombine parts, listen... mostly I don't find anything wrong and after reassembly everything works fine...
  14. isn't there a general "allow/disallow quicksave/load" feature? and yeah, the rest is self-control. just do not press that F5 button on the LP.
  15. for 1) right click on mun and select "focus view", now you see the flight trajectory in relation to mun. plan and execute transfer burn, notice, you can see in dotted line which way you'll pass mun. PE at mun between 10 and 20km. after SOI change, put your capture maneuver at the PE and burn retro until the egg-shaped orbit, an AP and the lack of a SOI-exit confirms your perpetual free fall around your destination. 2 MJ has the "Smart A.S.S." module, which is stock sas' big sister on steroids and comes in it's own windows. my favorite feature is surface mode where you can hack in pitch, yaw, roll in degrees. also it has more directions to point at than stock sas, e.g. target's docking port orientation, which is unbelievably helpful. for anything else (sas wise) I either use stock or no assist. stock and MJ control cannot run side by side, thus MJ disables SAS if it's active. MJ only does that if it's allowed to. there must be a "Auto warp" checked somewhere, even if it's checked for "ascent guidance" it will trigger in "maneuver planner" as well. If anything strange is happening with MJ on board, check the MJ menu for green highlighted modules. they are currently controlling something. most often you'd find the usual suspects all chilling in the "utilities"...
  16. once upon a time, there was a bloodhound gang song OT I learned the NATO-alphabet in my short military time. It's used for any radio-voice communication or situations where letter-salad is not an option. even if comm is not in english, they taught us to use this for clarity. When I need to spell something in my mother tongue, I make up fitting words as I go along. In some important radio message, sent in an stressful combat situation with distractions on both sides, this cannot work, though. It's better to have this unified and unique alphabet which is easy to notice and hard to mishear.
  17. yeah, more info about CPU, Mainboard, powersupply, hdd/sdd layout, usb-version... btw what do u use ur pc for? just playing or video or music or modelling???
  18. what about caves and tunnels? either the moon can have (some) natural atmo underground or they could close the tunnels up and pressurize them.
  19. while already holding the F9 key when did I last press F5?
  20. I think the latter. pages are looong now.
  21. I'm for smaller and specialized upgrades, as well. They could be integrated into the techtree or parallel to it, so no need for another menu. perhaps more like "space center capabilities" than "building upgrades". the graphics should still change at certain point, of course. too late for refined ideas, but I'm in.
  22. Yes! The view would be amazing. living here not so much the day/ night cycle would change a lot. beside the chance of tidal locking and having one long hot day and one long cold night. there would be a long dark period, when earth is in saturn's shadow no matter what. summer and winter would largely differ and be globally uniform, because the change in distance to the sun. earth would clean out at least a part of the rings. ocean tides would be significantly larger and more irregular. although I don't know if luna would stay in a stable orbit and/or intact. so perhaps we would have a star orbited y a gas giant with rings, which is orbited by a semi-habitable rock with rings. As I said the view would be amazing edit: oh man we would be in the rings, we would see a huge saturn with a belt deviding the sky. what would the old greeks say to that?
  23. I somewhat got used to the "salto suborbitale". if the rocket is stiff enough i can save it 2 out of 3 times. I think of it as an abort to orbit, with limited mission capabilities.
  24. +1 I built some interplanetary tugs and there clearly is a gap in the LF tanks. I think fuel switching is the best solution, it saves parts and is easy to use. perhaps a special texture for each, so you can see what's in them.
