  1. The game currently is a buggy mess and has been for longer than is really acceptable these days. They do say talent skips a generation so maybe KSP 3 will be worthy of KSP1s legacy because it sure ain’t KSP 2. It’s the single most disappointing thing that’s happened in gaming for me since I started playing them in 1985.

Yes, I'm happy that this will bring some changes, especially to the lighting which is kinda bad in the current state (especially the white reflection which makes planets look like plastic):

Agreed, the lighting in this game is not good. If you look at the KSC after dawn is horribly oversaturated.. it looks like it’s reflecting off snow…

  3. My dude…. The issue here is not the community it’s the game… we LOVE KSP. I love it so much I spent more than 4000hrs of my precious time on earth playing it.
KSP 2 was this fever dream of KSP+ Everything we know and love about the game but bigger! Better! Beautifuler!
What we have at the moment is none of those things.. we’re upset because we care. If I didn’t care about the game I wouldn’t be here.

Update 0.1.3.0 will include new parts, as we've said we are trying to balance new content, bug fixing, performance improvements and science development. I can confirm that all of those are being worked on right now.

Please fix the core gameplay bugs before adding new parts… the game at present is a turd, stop trying to polish it.

I'm not really changing my mind about "the game", I was already onboard for that and interested in seeing how the game develops.

What I am changing my thoughts about are the aesthetic Squad laid out and whether this team is taking it forward. Intercept is taking a departure from kerbals as mere thrill-seeking idiots with zero self-preservation as portrayed by so much media from the Squad days into what they were actually described as back in the day "overly-enthusiastic but technically competent". Now we see this description as artistic representation play out; instead of 55 gallon drums as fuel tanks we get technically competent parts that look like a professional built them. Even if they take outrageous shapes they look competent. This science part implies the overly-enthusiastic nature of kerbals-as-stated through the multitude of instruments crammed into one package, but it also looks like a damn science instrument.

I never trusted Squad to deliver because they didn't seem to have a coherent plan or aesthetic (and the game really shows this), but Intercept have a pretty clear vision from what I can see. Plus, they've given us a roadmap (albeit barebones, but it is a roadmap nonetheless! Someone made a damn plan!)

It’s almost as if KSP1 was not made by experienced game developers..

I just want to make clear to you (and whoever else on the Intercept team is reading) that I am NOT disappointed in the game so far, I just don't have to couch my words in a ... diplomatic manner as part of my job. While it is possible to disappoint me with future updates, especially with poorly thought-out or tacked-on mechanics, I'm here for the long run. Who cares if I'm not booting up the game every day, that's not the point. I want to see what you people do with this game. It's a very promising, if bumpy, start.

What’s promising about it exactly? After all that was said from the devs before the EA kick in the nuts and the current state of the game?

That's a much more interesting part than what I was expecting; I think Squad really scarred me with crap like the barn and the dumb "junkyard" aesthetic. You all are doing a great job and clearly I should be realigning my thoughts on the future of this game.

Time will tell if this professional game making studio can create anything even close to the game that KSP1 currently is.

Just side boosters (no fins) and their engines are 8. I don't know how you've managed to count only ~20 parts...

This is an average rocket of an average player. When testing, start small, due to reasons mentioned in the original post.

It was said specifically that this craft was submitted for testing ‘complex’ builds…

I will always remember my very first rendezvous and docking, that joyfull moment of personal achievement will never ever be forgotten.

As I will remember mine. And my first (intact) mun landing. Those where the greatest gaming moments I ever had in over 35 years of gaming.

Did I just get a shoutout from Nate Simpson himself?! Yes I did!  Very cool!!   That’s my space station with 2 shuttles in the bottom right of the first image. (Schwing2727)   I never played KSP1.  I’ve been playing KSP2 since launch and maaaaaaan it’s been an awesome ride.  Learning to intercept with other objects in orbit and then docking with them has been a wild experience learning to achieve.  This game is amazing.

Thank you for the update and thank you for clarifying some things. You guys are awesome, keep doing what you’re doing!

    *unhelpful assumtions removed by me

congratulations ! You should really give KSP1 a go! It actually works! Hehe

I highly doubt this.  The game is barely playable in its current state, major bugs still need fixing, we've received no new content in the game, the first major feature (Science) is still being worked on, and Nate came out last week and indicated they are slowing down the cadence for patches.  What on Kerbin makes you think they can hit 1.0 - which is every major feature on the roadmap being implemented - in a years' time?

I’m guessing they rush out a 1.0 release.

Rip, I guess its gonna be years until we finish the roadmap

Honestly the early access hasn’t been going great, and I think this is the breaking point for me, I don’t think the game will be at the 1.0 release for quite a long time. I might hop into the game now and then for updates and maybe to update my tips and tricks, but I don’t think playing it for 30 hours every two weeks, is going to be fun.

I’ll probably still be on the forums

It will be at 1.0 in a little over a year I think but I also think it will at that point still be a very poorly performing broken game… the longer this goes on the dream that once was for an amazing KSP2 is dying.

We went through it with KSP 1 and it ended up being great. We will just have to do the same with KSP 2. Cant wait for the next update!

This is NOT the same thing… KSP was made by folk who where not game developers! This is a supposed professional game making studio.. this will not end well.

I think it's a bit much to expect a game to run well on the minimum specs, and KSP 2 does have some parts I could have done with before - the latter is very much subjective :)

The recommended specs are a joke. It stinks of poor programming.

This is fun because I distinctly remember years of people wining because of no communication at all coming from the studio.

BTW 3 pages and nobody managed to bring up a single example of a dev actually promising 1000+ parts ships.

I'm not saying it doesn't exist, it probably does, I don't know, but sure enough looks like nobody is even doing the most basic research before claiming that the devs promised x or y.

The reply to Shadowzone about part counts is a masterpiece in diplomatic responses, not only he never specifies an actual part count, but  it doesn't even come close to confirming 1000 parts ships or say that they will be possible.

The first step to a 1 km long ship isn't a system capable of managing 1000 1m parts, but huge parts that allow you to build such a ship in 1-200 parts at most, probably the ability to "containerize" landers into kits/hangars/containers and orbital colonies making you skip the part in which you need 10 times more parts to actually lift that ship to orbit from the KSC.

I will get round to finding the quote I read. It was from the devs saying that KSP 2 will have at least twice the part count performance as KSP 1.

I could not disagree more. Watching a Kerbal slide down a slope on Minmus for 15 minutes, unable to even switch control to something else so I can at least be productive while they slide, was a terrible "feature" that I'm happy to know is not in KSP2.

If all you want is them to fall down sometimes, sure that's fine.

Couldn’t disagree moar. The rag dolls where a very important part of the ‘kerbalness’ of KSP. It’s hugely important. The fact it isn’t in KSP 2 is very likely to do with the barebones EA release.

Typically the claimant is responsible for providing the proof but I guess we don't operate that way on the internet. vOv I don't really care either way so I'll just assume it was never specifically stated.

Yea this isn’t a court of law. I will look for it when I have time. I remember it clearly as hearing the devs say such a thing was the first time I really had hopes for the game.
The video game industry has burned me so many times.. sure their just game and I’m a grown man but I’m a grown man who loves video games.

Were 1000 part ships ever an actual thing that was promised? Why would you need 1000 parts on a single vessel?

As far as I'm concerned there are more patches to wait for and play with before I answer a poll like this.

The developers mentioned multiple times that playable part counts of around 1000 would be possible in KSP. I asked that as an AMA question, which obviously didn’t get asked.. sigh…

and I can think of many reasons why having 1000 parts in one vehicle would be super freaking cool.

I asked in another context where people thought that higher part counts were promised, and I received a link to an interview with a Youtuber, who asked how the availability of "new hardware" had affected the development process. Nate responded, in part:

... which the fan base interpreted as a commitment to dramatically improve performance for high part count craft, as can be seen in a few comments above (much like what happened with the "slay the kraken" comment, which just means "we will have a process for fixing bugs").

No I heard them specifically say part counts around or above 1000. When I have time to waste I will look for it. It was in a video I saw on YouTube.
