With certain parts, these attachment nodes just appear in the VAB in some random spot, not connected to anything. You can't connect anything to them, either.

How could anyone call this underwhelming?? It's insane.

Has anyone else seen the ghost attachment nodes that just randomly appear when certain parts are placed?

I'm going to start a new Science Career when .25 comes out. Hopefully, Squad will have fixed the science bugs with the nose cone experiment.
