  1. I was 6 years old but I remember my parents taking me outside to see it. I remember them telling me it was possibly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I'll be 81 when it comes back around (if I make it that long).
  2. Coherent contracts, YAAAAAY! Also, welcome to the team Isaac (Ziggy Stardust)
  3. I taught myself Java after college, I believe I was around 27 when I started teaching myself how to Java code. It can certainly be done on your own if you have the will to do it.
  4. Bah, the cloud cover! You're right though tater, that thing goes like crazy with those little baby SRBs.
  5. Very silent in ESOC right now... http://livestream.com/ESA/exomarssocialtv Schiaparelli has landed, but the signal has not been able to be picked up as of yet. ESA says that is not necessarily a cause for concern, but will update when they know more.
  6. "They've" caused no "grief" to the community. For all we know, the 8 left of their own volition because their contract is up. If that is true, is it really SQUAD or the 8 that left who caused this "grief", or is it really just in a select few users' heads? The only people causing "grief" to the community are those who are stirring up controversy, speaking without any actual knowledge of the situation and generally rabble-rousing. SQUAD, and the 8 employees who are no longer employed by SQUAD, are under no responsibility to say anything regarding confidential employment information.
  7. It's basically what you got right here: It might not be in the exact words you want nor in the exact format, but this is what you're getting. This is SQUADs response and I'd be very surprised if you get anything more. Now you're just making noise for noise sake.
  8. The problem is that asking for an explanation of some things IS wrong; well maybe wrong is an incorrect term, presumptuous, entitled or perhaps out of bounds would be more appropriate terms maybe. Employment matters are not the business of anyone but the employees and employer, unless the employer is breaking labor laws of some sort in which case it'd be the business of law enforcement as well. Asking SQUAD to clarify statements made by a NON-EMPLOYEE (SirCmpown, keeping with the KerbalStuff theme) about the company is entirely different than asking for insider information about why 8 former employees left or were let go from the company. If you cannot see that difference then I can no longer continue to put this blatant point in front of you.
  9. Man, I wish my likes would come back from yesterday...I got to like 1 post this AM and now it's saying my 25 are out again...
  10. You think SQUAD owes us some sort of explanation for why the 8 developers left, but the fact of the matter is that they don't. As a matter of fact, you stated exactly this in a reply to me earlier: "The point was, when a major controversy hit, they dealt with it immediately and put the concerns to rest." Then you completely dismissed my points: 1. that the situation is entirely different when you take into account the subjects at hand (a Mod website vs. Employment information) AND 2. that this has happened before in the past. There were 3 devs/employees that left/were fired around the same time 3+ years ago. No explanation was given back then, other than to say that their work was appreciated and thank them. SQUAD did that here as well. They've never given explanations as to why employees left/were let go and they (if they are smart) will never do so.
  11. Except the point is that you will never get those answers from SQUAD as it is none of your business why the 8 developers left. You hold no stake in SQUAD and are not a shareholder, they owe you only the game you already paid for and have been delivered.
  12. No, I didn't...I got your point, but you missed mine. The 2 situations you are comparing (a MOD website going down vs. confidential/proprietary employment information) are nowhere near the same things and should NEVER be handled the same within the community. The fact is that you, myself and no one else on this Forum has the right to know what happened with an employment situation. The only people who have the right to that information are SQUAD and the employee. To disseminate that information would not only be harmful to SQUAD but could also jeopardize the future earning potential of the employee who left...what is so hard to understand about that? Again I will state (and you likely weren't around for it) that nearly this same thing happened 3+ years ago when NovaSilisko, Capt. Skunky and PDxTV left/were fired. Nothing was said by SQUAD, no announcements were made about why it happened and everyone freaked out...we never (except for posts from an obviously disgruntled PDxTV) got answers from SQUAD on that, and we won't on this either. Frankly, it's none of anyone on this forums' business.
  13. Quoted for truth. You purchased the game, your business is over. There is no "service contract" unless you're still paying for ongoing development?!
  14. The last controversy was with KerbalStuff, an ENTIRELY different situation than an employment situation and one in which the community did deserve answers. If you want to go back, look at what happened when Capt. Skunky, NovaSilisko and PDxTV (think that was his name) were fired/left, SQUAD said NOTHING about that nor confirmed/denied all those rumors at the time. Same with Maxmaps...when he left, SQUAD said thanks for your work and moved on. Dr Turkey, same thing... SQUAD has NEVER commented on employee retention or release matters and NO ONE should ever expect them to. Asking more than that is asking for the company to delve into employment/employee information that is and should always be confidential, to protect both the employee and the employer.
  15. It does not matter...under NO circumstances is transparency required, nor even should be preferred, when it comes to retention and firing of employees. There could be reasons and issues entirely out of SQUADs control for why the 8 developers left when/how they did. Do you think someone like NathanKell, Sarbian or Mu really want it out there exactly why they left? <RAMPANT SPECULATION WITHOUT EVIDENCE> What if one of the devs had beef with the SQUAD management and decided to take 7 other devs with them? Do you think it'd be good for their career to post something like that? For future employment consideration? Do you think it'd look good for SQUAD to accuse their employee of this? Would it help them get new, good employees or retain old ones? No, it just makes BOTH parties look bad, dirty, scummy, etc... </END RAMPANT SPECULATION WITHOUT EVIDENCE> In response to your questions, no...SQUAD has not made transparency the norm, nor is it really their responsibility or job to do so, especially when it comes to employment information. This is also not a departure from SQUADs normal PR actions, so why is anyone expecting any different? This whole community needs to come to its senses and understand that this whole debate is having absolutely no positive value at all. It's riling up the rabblerousers, causing moderators and devs extra work and in the end we'll get no answers and no satisfaction.
  16. This is totally incorrect. Employment issues are completely none of our concern. No employer that I've ever worked for has discussed their hiring, retention or firing policies nor specific circumstances around any of these items. Any employer that would do something like that (if it were ever discovered) would have a hard time hiring and retaining employees in the future...would you really want to work for a company that told the public exactly why you were let go? SQUAD owes us NOTHING. What you paid for was the released version of KSP and it dropped with KSP 1.0, you didn't pay for a service, the development of the game...you paid for the RELEASED GAME and you got it. SQUAD released KSP 1.0 quite some time ago now, and they have completely lived up to their promise of development. They've then extended their FREE development time for another 2 full patches worth of improvements to the game. You said it yourself in your post that the exact amount of continued development time was unspecified... Now I'm no shill for SQUAD, go back and look at my post history if you want...I disagree with many of their decisions during the Maxmaps era (Cursed anyone?!) and even some of them since, but this "controversy" is entirely ridiculous and unproductive. It's not helping anything, it's not clarifying anything and it's just more BS for the devs/moderators to deal with instead of doing the important parts of their job...can we just drop it?
  17. You are only allowed to give 25 likes per day. You cannot give any more likes today.
  18. Is this documented somewhere or did you figure it out with trial & error @Alshain? Seems like something that SHOULD be documented for user knowledge if it isn't...
  19. Thanks for the correction Arsonide, I missed that announcement.
  20. He did, pre-1.1 they said they'd update the mods (the World Cup one and the Asteroid Day one) but nothing has been said since as far as I'm aware.
  21. Goodbye Kasper, thanks for all you've done for the community!
  22. Waypoints have nothing to do with Maneuver Nodes. They are 2 separate things entirely and for 2 different purposes. Waypoints are used to mark a spot of interest on the planet, while maneuver nodes are used to mark a spot in your orbit which you want to burn/maneuver in some manner.
  23. "We’ve kicked into full QA-mode this week! You know what they say: if you have a problem… if no one else can help… and if you can find them… maybe you can hire… The QA-Team!" And now I have the A-Team theme song in my head, thanks SQUAD!
