MODS! MODS! MODS! What Mods do you suggest?

Recommended Posts

I'm not looking for anything too crazy, although there are some weapon mods that look pretty interesting... Anyway, what do you suggest for a light weight (already overheating) computer system (laptop). Thanks! :D:D:D

If you are looking for a great weapons/combat mod I would suggest BDArmory

Although for me some of my favorite mods include:

Chatterer (adds some radio transmissions)

KIS Kerbal Inventory System (adds some purpose to EVA missions) - new alternative to KAS

DMagic Orbital Science (more science parts)

KAX Kerbal Aircraft Expansion (some really great plane engines)

EnvironmentalVisualEnhancements (if your computer can handle it... adds some clouds etc. to Kerbin)

KSP Alternate Resource Panel (great utility mod that I find is a lot better than stock)

RealChute (some really great parachutes and improved mechanics)

I have a lot more, but these are some of my favorites.

All of these work in 1.0+ even if they haven't been updated.

Kerbal Engineer gives tons of useful info. MechJeb does too and it has an autopilot to boot.

Precise Node makes it so easy to fine tune maneuver nodes to get that perfect encounter.

Kerbal Alarm Clock turns the game from running space missions into running a space program.

Stock BugFix corrects some of the issues with the game that haven't been patched yet. Stock Plus (same author) is being designed to make even more improvements. Right now it adds extra tweakables to the stock fairings for number of pieces and ejection force.

Remote Tech overhauls the antenna system to require Line of Sight and have the antennae be in range of each other. Unmanned craft won't fly without a connection to the KSC, which you get to provide by building satellite networks to bounce the signal. Mod makers are still working on this one, but the latest Dev Build is playable despite one or two bugs.

USI Life Support is RoverDude's Life Supprt Mod. Kerbals need to be supplied or they go on strike and behave like tourists. Comes with a greenhouse part that allows them to extend the useful life of their supplies.

I haven't used either of these, but if you're after aircraft, then Firespitter seems to be the de facto standard

Also, KIS looks less like an "alternative to KAS" and more "some extra stuff to accompany KAS". KAS itself adding some incredible functions to the game.

There's also Hooligan Labs and the more realistic (but less versatile/fun IMO) Procedural Airships mods, which are also fun for mucking around with stupid things.. Combining those with firespitter/KAX (and the nice prop engines they have), and KAS winches and hooks, and you can make giant floating air bases to launch rovers and things from.

+1 for

Chatterer

KIS + KAS, they work together...

DMagic Orbital Science

KSP Alternate Resource Panel

RealChute

Stock Bug Fix

Also

Station Science

OKS/MKS

Kermini Science Add On

USI-LS

ReEntry Head Mod (adds back real heat and a need for heatshields)

I will update more when I get home and look at what im running in my 1.0.2 career currently

How's Interstellar doing these days? There were some fun combinations to be had in that one, too... Warp drive (that still maintained your velocity vector between entering and leaving your 'warp bubble'.. meaning if you zip from one side of the solar system to the other, suddenly the planets are all going the opposite direction and you're in 'head-on collision' orbits that you're madly trying to slingshot your way out of...

The antimatter and 'energy beaming' mechanism from that one provided for some intersting strategies though.. giant floating solar arrays beaming microwave power across the system and the like. I did enjoy that.

+1 Kerbal Engineer Redux

+1 Raster Prop Monitor

As a Lifesupport mod I recommend:

TAC Lifesupport ... without O2, water, food and electricity your Kerbals die after a few hours of flight

I also recommend:

Antenna Range ... with this mod you need the stronger antennas in order to communicate with Kerbals going on munar or interplanetary missions

Precise Node - easier to fine tune nodes + ejection angle data for interplanetary

Kerbal Engineer Redux - ship info

Final Frontier - tracks missions for kerbonauts, mission badges

Kerbal Alarm Clock - easy to track events for several missions at once

Distant Object Enhancement - adds distant planets and close ships as stars in the sky

Chatterer - I never fly without it, adds so much immersion, but I keep only Apollo tracks

ScienceAlert - alerts you when there is science available and spares you the clicking around

Waypoint Manager - adds way-points for missions that you have in map view to normal view

PlanetShine - reflected light from planets/moons

personal recommendations:

chatterer (still have to download this one myself, but I've heard nothing but positive stuff about it)

RCS build aid (if you're into VTOL planes. If you're not, you can probably do without)

EVE (short for Environmental Visual Enhancements. Adds clouds to kerbin and various weather patterns to different atmospheres. Very cool)

KER (Kerbal Engineer. Very handy for delta-V readouts)

That's about all the ones I use. I don't like to go too much for game-altering mods, but anything that just gives more info or increases quality of play? Yes please!

I was using too many mods for a while, so I've narrowed it down to what I really need.

1) E.V.E. -- but delete the citylights files. I just want the clouds. The city lights... need some work.

2) Mechjeb or KER, at the very least to give you TWR and dV figures.

and... that's it.

edit: actually, after reading the thread, Chatterer is definitely worth the recommendations. Just a very nice touch of ambiance. Alarm Clock or something to show you your interplanetary windows is also nice.

TWR, dV, and interplanetary transfer windows are all things I would eventually like to see in stock, though. They really should just be part of the game.

Kerbal Engineer - for the Delta-v calculator and telling you what Biome you are currently over when in orbit and stuff

Alarm Clock - Especially when you have several missions on the go

Docking Assist - Just takes some of the hassle factor out and ithink adds more realism

Chatterer - just because it always makes me smile, should be part of stock IMHO

The mods i consider vital are:

- Aviationlights (great lighting)

- Docking port allignment indicator (makes docking so much easier)

- Kerbal Foundries Wheels and Repulsors (has tank tracks)

- MechJeb (the autopilot which takes over a lot of tedious steering)

- Quantumstruts continued (ideal for strengthening connections)

- Tweakscale (scaling parts)

I also use the welding tool in KSP 0.90 to create the specialised parts i need (it doesn't work in version 1.0 yet)

I use more mods but those are the ones i always use.
