Changing parts in the save file

Ok I changed the part name and now in the VAB I cannot open the craft load menu....

I only changed the name in one craft file! EEEEP. Any ideas?

Ok, changing the name stopped the game loading any craft in the VAB. I deleted the changed file and all is well. I really need detailed instructions if anyone knows?

I have no idea why that would have happened. I've done this before without any problems. It was a couple ksp versions ago. You could send me the .craft if you want me to try.

I don't think their were any other steps besides replacing the part with Ctrl f.

okay, then I hijack this thread and ask:

how do I change a part in a vessel the persistent.cfg (I do know, how it works with single part ships as in the recover kerbal missions, where kerbals were stuck in probe cores)?

situation: I play with the MKS mods and the planet mod new horizons (and a few other mods). I have space stations in various orbits equipped with the MKS-dockingports (kerbitrail), which don't work.

I'd like to change them (all) into standard clamp-o-trons.

otherwise I fly to them with a claw + dockingport-combination. (dock to the station, and when I leave, the claw + docking port remains at the station for further visiting ships).

If you find the vessel (search by name in the sfs file) you can change a part by replacing a PART { } section with one that works for Clamp-O-Trons.

Your best bet would be to "launch" the craft you want to change but with clamp-o-trons in place of the kerbirails. Then save, and copy the PART { } for the clamp-o-tron over from that craft to the one in orbit. (replacing the kerbitrail one).

You could also try the universal docking ports mod:
