Lock your S-foils in attack position and arm your Proton Torpedoes, squadron, the T-70 X-wing is here.

This fine addition to my collection is a fully* functional X-wing, as seen in Episodes 7 and 8, flying into battle against the First Order.

*Repulsorlift not included

This craft is the product of a lot of blood, sweat, and use of the offset tool, but now I’m finally happy with my fully stock version of the iconic X-wing. The wings swing independently, and toggle on a single action group. They redock with some consistency (60% of the time, they work every time), but it should be more than enough to go blow up those TIEs who are getting a little nosy (proton torpedoes not included).

Flying the T-70

X-wings aren’t an easy craft to pilot, and this craft is no exception. If you plan on taking this craft for a spin, I highly recommend that you read this well.

Things to keep in mind:
- almost all pitch and yaw authority comes from the thrust vectoring on the panthers, almost all roll authority comes from ailerons on the wings
- This craft is made for functionality first, looks second, and maneuverability last

Taking off:
- go full throttle, afterburners aren’t necessary (AG 2), but they can help
- as you pass the SPH, turn right and use the ledge to take off. Pitch up hard immediately

Level flight:
- As the pitch and yaw controls are tied, only pitch OR yaw. Both is ineffective
- Stall speed is about 70m/s, stable flight is around 100m/s, 120m/s with afterburners
- Wing position doesn’t really impact flight characteristics

Using the s-foils:
- Swing the s-foils only during level flight, otherwise they may break out of their hinges
- use action group 1 to transition the wings. Not all will dock immediately; count the number of unstaged engines (the junos) to determine how many wings have redocked
- spam z to throttle engines back to full
- if some wings don’t redock at all, use the deploy/retract on the airbrakes to shake them back into position
- if this doesn't work, just toggle the wings again

Landing:
- As the engines control the pitch, land at 60%-100% throttle on a very flat trajectory
- As soon as wheels touch the ground, kill thrust and enable wheelbrakes
- Doing donuts is an especially effective way of slowing down
