Rename "Deploy Shielded" Option

Recommended Posts

Landing struts have an option called "Deploy Shielded", which controls whether they can be extended while inside fairings or cargo bays. This is a confusing name, especially since toggling it in the editor seems to do nothing, and it only takes effect in a specific situation that you might not encounter while testing.

I think it should be renamed to "Deploy While Stowed" or something similar, which would make more sense and match the warning message: "Cannot deploy while stowed".

Or just remove the option entirely because who in their right mind deploys landing gear while it's inside a fairing or cargo hold?

Seriously though, I've never had a valid use for this nor have I ever seen someone else use this.

I think it's mainly for when landing gear appears outside, say, a cargo bay, but the game is technically considering it inside.

I've had to enable that option on landing gear for planes when the game was considering it inside the cargo area, despite being attached outside.  Had an interesting first landing when my nose gear didn't deploy because it was "stowed."

I've had that EXACT same issue as well.  Nearly bought the farm as I didn't see the message in sufficient time to read it.   Fortunately my landing technique involves watching from under the plane, and I noticed the missing gear and was able to abort the landing and enable that option in-flight.

The gear in question was attached to the outside of the 1.25m service bay (which makes a great backing to a shock cone on the nose, very heat tolerant).    I hadn't adjusted it's position at all either (aside from using keyboard controls to turn it around so the wheel was closer to the front of the plane).

The wording is definitely rather iffy on that button..
