Story contracts expiring

Hello. As some people may have noticed, the story/progression contracts ("Achieve Orbit!" and "Flyby x" contracts) have the normal expiration periods, meaning that if you don't accept them in time they are lost forever. Is there any way to prevent this? Ultimately it is not that important but it does add an element of roleplay, and provides extra rewards. And it really is rather silly that they expire.

Also, can anyone confirm that to fulfill the return requirement, it has to be the same vessel that landed there first?

I've been able to take Science™ from one ...ahem.. slightly bent lander and put in  on another and got credit, I think.

It's been a while, though.

Also, I have forgotten to get the contracts [Fly by X] and got contract credit any way.

Again, it's been a while. I'm better at visiting Gene, first, now.

They are not lost forever. If you skip time the same ones will eventually show up again, although it could take awhile depending on how many you have left.

There is a max number of contracts. So if you did not want to take those contracts, you would eventually (and inevitably) end up with a list consisting entirely of offered contracts you did not want and which would never expire. I.o.w. it would effectively force you to either complete or fail those contracts.

You already get the milestone rewards for those 'firsts', which is separate from the commercial contracts.
