I made this corvette (not the car) a few days ago using the B9 aerospace and KW rocketry packs.

I'm still working out some flight issues with it, but other than that it works pretty well.

This is my ICBM I use just for fun or to launch a bunch of target decoys into orbit for blowing up.

As you can see it contains six MIRVs which actually can be moved for different impact points.

That looks pretty cool, any chance you could issue a .craft download?

This is my first post, please bear with me here :P

Piranha-class Interceptor:

LOADOUT:

Up to 3 torpedoes (inspired by Macey Dean), each consisting on 2 docking ports to stack, an LV-1 (AKA, ant) engine, and an Oscar-B tank.

POWERHOUSE:

Two ion drives, powered by 2 Gigantors, and 2-4 (it's been awhile since I've built it) radioisotope generators.

Each Ion has 2 tanks of Xenon fuel each, allowing an estimated (from what I've heard) 2 hours of continuous burn.

EXTRA INFO:

The front has a Clamp-o-tron Jr. for weaponry to be loaded, and the back has a normal sized Clamp-o-tron for docking, or perhaps some large smart missile. Near the back, and the regular-sized docking port, is a Stayputnik for unmanned use, 2 Stratus-V RCS tanks (80 units each, for a total of 160 units of RCS), and two of the large radial batteries, of which names I forgot. They both carry 400 units of electric charge, for a total of... 850 units of charge? Not sure how much the Mk-1 pod holds.

My favorite picture was cut out, but the others show what was left out. It was only the firing on the ions while showing the back.

This was done with deadly reentry heat mod so could not dip to low. I am surprised it made it through unharmed actually.

WOAH! now I'm actually inspred to make a real long range combat capable ship :D

(not just for close/local enforcement....)

donlokiman: How much dV does it have? Still looking for cruiser to support my Laythe operations :)

If you get the launch perfect about 5200 dv.. if you cheat it into orbit 6000+. ATM you use the cruiser engines to circularize on launch which uses a ton of fuel.

I´ve made brief trials and it comes to me, that X-305 has a very good chance of becoming "Marduk class" light cruiser for needs of PROJECT Babylon, because I think it exactly matches it´s specification which I drew:

Goals: providing security to vital operations on both Kerbin and Laythe orbit, escorting “Damkina†on it´s travels

Requirements: ability to travel between Kerbin SOI and Laythe, capability of taking out capital ships, capability to defend itself against lighter ships, armor plating of vital systems, ability to provide logistic support to other combat vessels

Just minor changes will be mad - I will sacrifice those solar panels and save weight I will use to instal Xenon gas tanks so it will be able to refuel fighters :)

I wanna be really careful, not to ruin the thing, I would really just reduce part count and add that xenon on some place, where it would be ok. It is really nice ship and I cannot wait to see it perform in combat, I will propably set some target ship into next save for others to fly a propper combat mission with it.

I will arm it with your missiles :) Should I use those made of 2 oscar B tanks or is the on tank variant just as powerful?

Nice slim and pointy design! As admiral-general Alladin said - It needs to be pointy!

Armor is useless againts most of the weapons, so no need for added weight there, it looks like it could pack solid amount of dV :)

It's the succesor of a series of previous designs. (The Co-1 and the Co-4 being the best functioning builds) The main aim was to improve its dV to give it enough fuel to get to laythe, the Co-4 series was able to get to jool but didnt have enough fuel to circularise again after aerobraking. I'm also trying to add in a cargo bay though balance remains an issue.

I've actually found armour is very useful in the aftermath of a battle when debris is going everywhere. Its saved my ships on numerous occaisions.

I would still use wing panels on the ship, the main reason being when and if reentry heat is added, Ive found that when aerobraking the ships with no wing panels are purely ballistic and the entry is too much and they burn up. Wing panels however provide a small amount of lift and allow the ships follow a more shallow trajectory without using RCS. Some of my ships have detachable bridges as well, and detaching the bridge on reentry is much easier from a ship that isn't nosediving or tumbling.

The XC-306 was designed especially with controlled reentry in mind for deep aerobraking.

Most of my ships look and control like bricks in the atmosphere. The way they are build means that wings panels wouldn't help as they would be positioned verticly.

donlokiman: I´m developing detachable re-entry shield for use on ships in case heat will be added - before leaving to Jool ship will dock to it in Kerbin orbit and after Laythe aerobrake it will be jetisioned and maybe reused for Kerbin return. But for ships without frontal big docking port, I hope the will add something else if they decide to introduce the heat...

Well, armor can protect you againts light projectiles like oscarB with ant engine tipped with docking port or those small RCS probes, but it will provide no help at all aggaints nosecone proppeled by 6 sepratrons with light spin... What can help is to have good angles on your armor - kinda like on tank and spaced armor...

So now we know when running away from a squadron of your ships the maneuver that will save your life is dipping into atmos.. hehe May not stop the missile on your tail though lol

Well, space combat in real time would most likely to end up with opposing ships each on really stupid orbit, because of trying to catch-up/evade each other expending all dV :D

For that matter for taking down a capital ship, which has decent acceleration to escape, is best to use some light fighter with high trust to weight ration and enough fuel, launched on ridiculously accelerating stage to provide minimum of time to evade. Only situation when I see real space combat can occur will be in defensive situation - defending stations, capital ships with no fuel etc...

My missiles are designed to operate in space and so are unaroedynamic and have fragile communotron dishes at the front. That manauver would work as they wouldn't survive. :)

Best way how to get rid of capital ships in your system is deception and black flag operations. Take an example - those ships are very fuel hungry and every commander of capital ship will never miss an oportunity to get some fuel.

So why not disguise some weapon system as a fuel tanker?

Current version but armed with older torpedo using just 4 sepratrons with no spin, new one uses 6 sepratrons with spin
