TAC Fuel Balancer-DISCONTINUED

I've looked at goodspeed. I don't like that you have to put a pump on every tank. I'd put one device on my ship, but not one on every tank..

I never needed to put any device on my tanks using godspeed.

Thanks, I looked into it further. It looks promising. I am a little weary of the module manager, but just because I'm new to modding and don't want to dive too deep.

That's not the FuelBalancer icon....

I know...something is overwriting it

EDIT: Actually that icon is the original icon without the toolbar plugin, I removed the toolbar mod and I can use the fuel balancer as I reinstall the toolbar 1.7.1 the fuelbalancer does that strange thingy, I have stripped everything down to only those two mods

Where is your log file and list of mods? Please please please upload them somewhere that I can look at them with any and all bug reports. And please upload the entire log file, not just a sniplet. I know that it is big but sometimes an earlier error causes the error that you are seeing.

Especially please upload the log file since the toolbar disappears completely when only selecting the Fuel Balancer.

I suspect an issue with the new Toolbar version (1.7.1). My mod seemed to work fine in the testing that I did, but I have yet to upgrade the toolbar from a pre-1.7 version. (I'm in the process of moving to the other side of the US).

TL;DR: Help me help you by uploading your entire log file and list of mods somewhere.

Hello TaranisElsu

as I said earlier I had only those two mods toolbar 1.7.1 and the fuel balancer , now my ksp installation is again a mess of mods :D I'll do a clean installation with only those two mods and I'll try again, as for the log, do you mean the KSP.log under the same folder as KSP.exe ?

Thanks for the fast reply :)

EDIT:

Shame on me, wrong installation, folder TacFuelBalancer was directly under GameData instead of be under ThunderAerospace, sorry TaranisElsu

Are you on Windows, Mac, or Linux? On Windows, I would prefer the output_log.txt in the {KSP}/KSP_Data folder. I don't know where Mac or Linux puts it. In that case, the KSP.log is probably the right file.

Edited my previous post, It was my mistake :(

That's okay. Glad you got it figured out. But that is one of the things that I can catch by looking at the log file.

Unfortunately, you have to keep it in the proper place because of how KSP maps the files. It refers to everything relative to the GameData folder instead of where my DLL is located.

I'm not sure if this has been suggested before (and it's too early in the morning for me to wade through posts to find out) but would it be possible to add an option to shut down all options on the right of the menu for that fuel type? IE if you've engaged 'balance all' or several 'pump in' and 'pump out' on the right buttons, a simple control to switch them all off at the same time? It can be a pain on a large rocket to go through and shut them all off one at a time. I'm guessing adding it along side the 'balance all' button so it comes up once per fuel type on the list.

I've encountered a strange bug that may have something to do with Fuel Balancer. Not sure yet. In any case were it not for Balancer I probably would not even know it existed.

Basically I'm getting a phantom fuel tank in my rocket builds... it's always the same Stretchy Tank with 720 units of liquid fuel. It shows up in Balancer but not in the resource panel. It has no weight but the fuel can be used... once it is used or dumped and you switch to another ship and back it disappears altogether.

It's definitely not a tank that is clipped inside the rest of the vehicle. For one thing it would be too large to go unseen but I have in any case done complete rebuilds and it's still there. I also don't think I've ever even used a Stretchy tank with 720 units.

You can see all this in my latest stream from about 30 minutes in.

My full list of mods is on my stream page here.

The workaround is obviously to dump the fuel from the tank on the launchpad but I'd really like to work out why I have the issue in the first place. Any ideas welcome.

Further to my last post I've done a bit more digging.

Using Part Lister I could see the tank did not exist in the VAB, but it appears in the Balancer list once you are on the launchpad. If the tank is drained and you session change away from the craft and back it is refilled (whether on the launchpad or not).

By highlighting the tank I've identified that it is associated with a Stretchy Tank of smaller size that contains monopropellant. Checking the persistence file however the part only contains monopropellant. The default size and content of that tank is 720 liquid fuel, so what appears to be happening is the script is somehow applying that amount of rocket fuel to the part in addition to the monopropellant (while not adding anything to the persistence file or applying any weight).

All very perplexing and obviously I cannot fix it by editing the persistence file.

UPDATE:

Okay I've done even more testing and now I'm unsure whether it might be Fuel Balancer that is causing the issue or just not playing nice in combination with Stretchy Tanks.

Removing all other mods I tested using just Stretchy Tanks and Fuel Balancer. Same issue was replicated. Interestingly if I reverted to launch the extra tank disappeared from the FB list, but if I then session changed and came back to the launchpad it was there again. Then I removed Balancer and had the offending monoprop tank sat above a normal rocket fuel tank and motor... it just burned that fuel and no extra fuel flowed from the bugged tank.

As previously mentioned the phantom tank does not add any weight in the VAB or once spawned (this double checked with Flight Engineer).

So... even if this is just an issue with Stretchy Tanks in practice it is only an issue if Fuel Balancer is balancing the tanks, since I otherwise wouldn't even know the problem existed (as the phantom fuel produces no weight). For now therefore I have removed Fuel Balancer... which makes me a sad panda because it's otherwise fantastic. Hope someone can shed some light on this as I don't have any hair left to pull out! :)

I noticed something strange today:

I have an SSTO and for some reason all options for tanks disappeared on it. When I open a specific resource - first of all there is no "Balance All" button(and when I launched it there was, because I enabled it).

Then I noticed that the only option of the tank options is "Highlight", the rest of the buttons there are gone.

I checked the log, and I am wondering what is going on:

Now, I hope all of these are not errors, but I hope you can give some more insight into this Taranis.

The explosions and stuff - I don't think they were caused by TACFB, even though they occurred when I manually switched the RAPIERs from Closed cycle to Air Breathing on reentry.

I have Deadly Reentry installed + FAR, so maybe they really failed due to overheating(even though the rest of the craft did not overheat).

Also - this behaviour persists through save/load/game restart cycles for the game for this specific craft.

I'm currently getting spammed with rebuild messages like those (there are thousands of them in the full log which I saved if you need it):
