[0.22] Universe Replacer v4.0

Anyone notice a significant upgrade in creation workshop lag while using this? Trying to place multiple objects or just moving some parts drop the framerate significantly, I removed this mod at the suggestion of a friend and it went away.

I did notice something like that, but I didn't think it was the mod. Are you using the 4k pack?

Oh, and adding specular map for Kerbin causes this.

Tried both bump map and 'water' map.

Check this out:

Here are example files I quickly made with some random earth images I found. In both PNG and TGA format, make sure to look at the ALPHA channels.

Just out of curiosity: Is there a good skybox of our real nightsky?

Try this one, it's great:

Okay I've taken the 2nd map from http://svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/vis/a000000/a003800/a003895/index.html and turned it into a 2048 skybox with maximum quality JPGs which is what everybody seems to say is the best for this.

I don't see the need for a 4096 one as this one pretty much maxes out on the pixel density of the image it seems. If you're in Kerbal-view and you zoom in all the way you can see pixels, but otherwise it looks beautiful on my monitor.

[defunct site link removed by moderator], unzip it into your GameData\UniverseReplacer\Textures\Skybox folder. Post any issues, though I may not get to it for a day or so.

You need to change the name like it says in the text file inside proper folder (e.g., Duna1.jpg).

Folders are already created.

Thanks. I hadn't realized it got updated yet again since I installed it yesterday. The version I have (pretty sure it's .21) doesn't have that feature. I'll install the 2.2 now.

Got it sorted - Duna looks pretty nice with a Martian texture.

Figure out which one of these pictures it is, http://www.reddit.com/r/KerbalSpaceProgram/comments/1jkxjs/so_theres_a_mod_that_lets_you_change_the_skybox/cbfufci i'm pretty sure it's one from the 5th album, and I will try to skybox it for you.

can u take and on first page add a imgur ss of the skyboxes so can be easier to decide

Maybe some enterprising individual who wants this to actually happen could help Tingle and the community out by compiling a list of posted skybox textures, links to the forum posts they're in, and take screenshots themselves.

Maybe.

Tingle is doing it. My link links to my comment with the imgur album. 5th horseman just needs to put a imgur album in his release post. Rareden's pack has pictures scattered early in the thread, those need to be organized.

Edit: I put together an album of pics in the thread from rareden's pack. That glitch somebody had makes for an excellent comparison shot. http://imgur.com/a/gc3Ii

If nothing else, this explains why Kerbals are so intent on going to the stars. They live right next to a stellar nursery.

(created with Spacescape)

Seems that my Kerbal has had enough of the stars, he isn't looking too healthy.

To many spacewalks. That's what they look like after prolonged exposure to the high intensity UV radiation from all those young blue giants.

Is there a good cloud texture for Kerbin? I can't seem to make a good working one.

take a look at this http://www.blenderguru.com/videos/create-a-realistic-earth/. It has a set of textures in high res taken from NASA sources. Also, just try doing a google image search for "cloud sphere map" and set image size to larger than 2 or 4 megapixel or whatever you are looking for.
