<p>We’d be hard pressed if we never got around to mentioning our first-ever official mod, <strong>The Kerbin Cup</strong> as part of <strong>Modding Mondays</strong>. <span><strong>The Kerbin Cup</strong> pack contains Kerbal-sized and rocket-sized soccer balls with the physics to match, as well as the flags of all 32 World Cup participating countries. It’s a small way to say thanks to our dedicated community and under a public domain license, a way for let our talented modders to really go crazy ways that only they can.</span></p>

You can download it, it's content. Call it DLC if you must. But it's free, so better call it free DLC.

Wait, it was also released before the game got to version 1.0, so maybe it even qualifies for day zero DLC. I'm not sure about the last one though, I'm no DLC-Lawyer :P

Does it make a difference how people call it?

Yes, this is Very Important because, if you remember correctly, DLCs for KSP are only free for those who bought it before April of last year. Hence why this mod is

...

Well said the_bT and regex. People will complain no matter what you do. The fact remains that Squad tried to do something for the community and that is what everyone here was asking for. Now people complain they get free stuff?I'll go and crucify myself and say I don't particularly enjoy or follow soccer, BUT I appreciate immensely the fact that Squad is making an effort to engage users by tying a contest into a world event. And to echo what has been said ITS FREE! Nobody is forced to download it and nobody has to pay a cent for it. Certain people seem to think that because they paid 20 some odd dollars they are entitled to have every wish of theirs granted.

That's also why a BONUS ROUND was posted :)

My opinion is that featuring the soccer ball add-on in The Daily Kerbal once was enough. While another mod is featured in the bonus round, it is obviously sharing the spotlight this week with this "mod".

It is, of course, your site to run. Just my thoughts on the matter.

I gather on that. Your thoughts were appreciated. Just wanted to see how it might go over and my thoughts are pretty much summed up by this MAD MEN clip. Needless to say, the same thing won't be happening if we come out with other official mod packs in the future.

Not sure it's right to call first-party content a "mod" and feature it here. Especially when there are so many great mods that deserve a bit of spotlight.

I agree quite strongly on that. This isn't a mod, it's a small optional update/expansion. Technically it's a mod, but it's not third-party content (sudden though: what is second-party content?)

If I could draw I'd have made webcomic where Rowsdower Kerman came into the Astronaut Complex with a soccer ball and said "hey guys, look at this cool thing we made!" and the several dozen or so other Kerbals yelled at him telling him he sucked, running him out of the room.

But I can't draw which is probably for the best :)
