Where are your Original (Elite) 3?

My big 3 just survived a Kerbin lithobraking maneuver with 30ton space craft that hand no parachutes. Small over sight on my part. Good thing Jeb is such a good pilot or I would have been out 1500+ science from minmus.

Colonel Jebediah Kerman, KAF is currently commanding Flight 27, Attempted Asteroid Rendezvous in Kerbin orbit.

Brigadier General Bill Kerman, KMC (Ret.) is currently on desk assignment after his forced retirement from flight duty.

Major Bob Kerman, KAF is currently waiting for his next flight assignment. There is a Mun landing mission pending and he has been waiting a while, so it might be his next command.

Bill Kerman ... KIA

Bob Kerman ... KIA

Jebediah Kerman ... Active Duty - KM-1 in orbit around Mun.

Bill and Bob were piloting one of the prototypes of our ill-fated Spaceplane program when disaster struck off the coast of KSC. A Munar spacedock was named in their honor.

After an extensive 5 minute investigation, TPTB elected to cancel the project noting that while collateral damage was often extensive, no malfunctioning rocket had ever claimed a life.

Doodory is also deceased, having decided to step back and admire her work after cleaning her CM's viewports.

In the KSC cantina, listening to this

while drinking green kakao.

There is a debate going on to overthink strategies, because they fear they could destroy KSC buildings in the near

future when continuing like before...

Bill is onboard my Kerbin orbital station, all alone. Lets call it a solitude-experiment.

Jeb and Bob are on their way to Eve with two other kerbals, to set up satelites around Eve and Gilly + lander probes. No manned landing on Eve this time, just Gilly. With RCS only.

Jeb: Died in a freak accident during testing after Wernher massively underestimated the TWR of two Sepratrons attached to a Mk1-2 Crew Capsule.

Bob: Promoted to Chief Test Pilot after Jeb's demise. Currently trying to get defaulted out of the program on medical grounds, possibly because he's heard that the spaceplane project is about to be restarted.

Bob: Supervising the launch and commissioning of the LKO 'Suzaku' Space Station prior to taking up the position of inaugural commander.

My "elite" three are not really my elite astronauts. I use them being test pilots now. Jeb is usually the main test pilot for atmospheric aircraft, Bill and Bob are usually the first to test out a craft in Kerbin orbit and testing their docking ability. Sometimes when I have KSOS installed I use them for the shuttle missions, with Jeb as pilot, Bill as commander, and Bob as EVA specialist (KAS installed).

For my elite, their attributes must max out, and then they are designated as crew commanders, and never all thrown into the same ship if I can help it.

I'm tired of their orange suits mostly. Jeb is usually dead in a few missions. I build quite awful planes. Bill and Bob end up on a station somewhere soon after that gets established. I like not using them, as they are always rubbing it my face that they were first.

I've kept the original 3 together as much as possible. They always fly together.

Their most recent mission in my RSS game was a 4 month stay at my lunar space station. They finished it up by taking a quick hop to the lunar surface for some samples before heading home. They are currently in training for my first manned interplanetary mission to the martian system. The mission goal is to explore both moons and a trip to the surface. The surface mission is up for debate however, I am having a hard time finding the requisite dV without cutting too deep into the mission's mass budget. I might be able to do it via asteroid mining on Phobos and Deimos, but I don't know if I want to risk that on such a flagship mission.

The alternative is to send a separate landing module, but that would require 2 more launches, inflating costs even more. I have a month before the launch window opens, it'll be interesting to see how I'm going to do this.

Jeb: Currently sitting in his office after being unable to even lift latest test plane from runway. He said something about "Where are the f****** wings?! I need more wings!"

Bill: He wants to be left alone for a while at the Island airport as he crashed there trying to land a test plane on its first test flight.

Bob: Waiting for his mission to launch aboard space station.

Bill and Bob, along with a white shirt whose name I forget (obrey kerman? nah that doesn't sound right, I might remember later), are on the Space Potato Grabber, currently locked onto Our Own Gilly, a D class asteroid in orbit around kerbin approximately 950 tons. I may of under built for it, as the ship had barely enough to get the asteroid into a stable orbit, and adjust it's inclination to be near equatorial. The space potato grabber is almost out of fuel, and I forgot parachutes. (oops) I'm going to have to rescue them soon.

Jebediah is inside a landed spaceplane that I forgot to take him out of, he's going to get out of there to rescue Bill and Bob, and Obrey Kerman or whatever his name is. I should really remember these things >.>

Jeb died somewhere somehow. I did once have an entire ship vanish so maybe that was it?

One of the other guys is part of the population of my Jool station (Ibolen).

I think the third guy is on the mun, in a moon base with some friends, so he's not lonely.

Jeb and Bob are my Spaceplane Pilot and Co-pilot, they are the only two to fly my SSTO that never ventures from Kerbin's SOI.. they are currently chilling at base after having made a few flights to ready, supply and send up crew to the big Science mission I just sent off to Jool. Bill is my sole Lander pilot, and has performed 30+ landings now on Minmus, Mun, Ike, and he is currently on a Science mission orbiting in the Joolian System. He will be landing on Bop and Pol shortly, and work his way inwards through the Joolian Moons as the contracts come up... then he will be returned to Kerbin along with my Mobile Lab, abandoning his venerable lander in Jool orbit. Herdard and another Kerbal whos name I cant remember atm are my scientists that man the orbial labs to collect the experiments and refuel Bill's reuseable lander.

Jeb: Commanding the AeroSpace Craft Research and Testing Initiative

Bill: Trying and failing to get reassigned to said spaceplane program

Bob: Trying and failing to avoid his and Bill's Extra-Kerbin Flight Program assignment

So am I the only guy with a safer spaceplane than rocket initiative? Or do you guys just hate AeroSpace craft?
