PS: Just curious, why didn't Gemini have an Launch Escape System?

I guess because of weight savings, but I'm not sure. It was originally planned to have an escape tower though, but it then was scrapped in favour of ejection seats, probably because Gemini was conceived to land by paraglide (small wings) and ejection seats could have saved the crew in case of failure during descent. Also, consider that hypergolic propellants do not explode when combined, but burn, meaning a "smaller" fireball. Problem is, ejection seats don't really work that well high in the atmosphere.

P.S. I forgot to add that the Titan II accelerates so fast that an escape tower would have worked just in a small time window.
