Any new development on Nuclear Thermal Rocket or Orion Project?
m4rt14n replied to m4rt14n's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Hopefully China would try on to build NTR for a manned mission to Mars. Now if that would not move the West, I dunno what else would. Solar cells in a Nuclear engine seems a bit unnecessary... -
Any new development on Nuclear Thermal Rocket or Orion Project?
m4rt14n replied to m4rt14n's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Payload size is largely irrelevant in comparison to goals and objectives. Considering the farthest man made object, the Voyager I hasn't even reached the Oort Cloud yet, let alone another star system, it is clear that we as of today lack a clear objective for the space program. As in KSP, the same principle holds, stick a humongous rocket in front of a small probe and you'll get there faster. -
Is there any new development on the NTR or Nuclear Propulsion rocket engines? It seems sad that the majority of the work in the 1950s and 1960s has stalled. Even though ground tests (for NTR at least) shows a lot of potential for humankind to reach for the stars. Basically the past 40 years or so has been wasted on sub par chemical rockets that goes nowhere near the "Space Dream" that were once seems so possible.

Steps to Conquer Space: 1. Capture an asteroid and bring it on a stable moon orbit. 2. Launch a self-replicating robotic miner/foundry/3D-printer 3. Mine the asteroid and make multiple robots from number 2 4. Create a giant Space Factory and Shipyard using the robots 5. Assemble Orion Project Generation Colony Ship 6. Explore, Colonize, Conquer

Whay would real-life war spacecraft look like?
m4rt14n replied to FishInferno's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Like this.. A Dyson sphere surrounding a white dwarf would have enough energy to move itself and burn entire worlds... -
I did an exercise on this idea a while back... You'd need some kind of autopilot(mechjeb) to hold the plane steady while pushing the payload plane into orbit. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/68179-Spaceship-One-Delivery-(Spaceplane) The biggest problem is wobbling, center of mass shifting after payload seperation and mass shifting due to fuel losses (because it is a very big heavy plane)

I always thought they ate some RTGs while growing up. And their body has evolved to get energy from it, making them able to function without food, water or sunlight indefinitely...

Parking and refuelling Spaceplane on KSC?
m4rt14n replied to m4rt14n's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Awesome stuff. Thanks I wanna park up on the KSC helipad -
This really needs to get fixed. I spent 20 minutes or so clicking and right clicking to switch to the floating kerbal..

The ULTIMATE Challenge for Ion Power...
m4rt14n replied to Starwhip's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Considering Spaceplanes dont even need any engines to land, it'll just be a matter of sticking enough wings. -
We need whackjob to build a giant gravity ring space station that can go to Jool
-
I think i saw somebody made a rover driving around a spinnin ring in space.

Dont use the spaceplane landing guide in MJ, use the landing module to point to a general area. Once it made all the burns outside atmosphere, land it yourself. Not perfect but it works.
-
All my interplanetary ssto has like .17-.30 TWR lol! Also landing shouldnt be a problem with mechjeb, CMIIW you should be able to just point to the landing spot using the guidance module.

I love those solar panels and lighting. Looks like those squids from ME3.
-
Lol at imperial units
-
what if we crash Mars into Venus?
-
Is it possible to make a spaceplane SSTO that can fly to Laythe, land, reorbit and back? With no mods, besides mechjeb without refueling. How much dV would it need? I'm trying to make one that holds 3 kerbal in a 3-man cockpit, but can't seem to get enough dV...

So... What's the "cave-like underground formation on Tylo"?
m4rt14n replied to Cesrate's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Flying into a cave in a moon... Descent? Anyone? -
Lol thats awesome

The trick to land planes in ksp is.... to build a plane that can land. Make sure your plane can achieve stable flight with CoL behind CoM when the fuel is full and also almost empty. After that it needs to be flying in straight line and dropping less than 5 m/s. Aim to touch down with the back wheel first and in VAB disable front wheel brakes. Watching Cruzan youtube videos, posted in tutorial section, is a very good way to get the general idea. He also posted some fancy aerial manuevers you can try to train your landing faster. Also always try to fly and land small planes first. There is a reason why real pilots fly Cessnas before Jumbo Jets....

For the x 55 cant u use Joy2key or some other program to cpmbine the axis?
