The efficiency of an SSTO plane comes from reusability. Every time you launch a rocket you lose the entire ship to deliver a payload into orbit, meanwhile an SSTO can deliver the payload and get back safely, and after being refueled and refitted it can launch again for a fraction of the time it takes to assemble a new rocket. Picture this: How much an airplane ticket would cost if you had to throw away the plane after delivering the passangers? That is what happens with our current real life space programs, and that is why the private space programs are aiming for fully reusable ships. KSP right now (remember we are still in Beta testing) has no "real" use of SSTO ships because contracts and costs are not implemented (as allmhuran pointed out), but when it happens the we´ll see how SSTOs fare against rockets.

I´ve reached the South Pole, completing three quarters of my trip around Kerbin on a rover, closing the distance to my final destination: The Kerbal Space Center Flagpole. Almost there You can follow the unfolding events on youtube, this is the latest uploaded video

He is not taking off Kerbin´s surface, he is pushing the planet away.

If your space program was a song, what would it be?

My two cents. What I like about your work is the scope and the scale of your models, not if they can fly with the new parts. Let me ellaborate: I´m not really impressed by "usability" because you can always add moar boosters to any half-@ssed piece of junk and make it fly. I´ve done it, no biggie. What I can´t do is to "do a Whackjob": something so big, so complex, so out there that you can´t even comprehend where to start to build something like that. Your ships and structures have a "whackjobiness" that can´t be imitated, a style that bends conventions, a shape that looks like something from another dimension. You don´t need to create "bigger ships that can fly", you need to be whackjob. Scope. Scale. Complexity. Beauty. BE.WHACKJOB.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk unveiled the newest edition of the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft. This is what the future looks like, say goodbye to the white/gray blocky oldschool look of NASA. The DragonV2 flight could achieve its first unmanned flight as soon as late 2015, and its first crewed flight as soon as mid-2016. Excuse me, I think I need to change my pants Full article and more sexy images and videos here: http://boingboing.net/2014/05/29/spacex-unveils-new-dragon-2-sp.html

Solved. You, dear Sir, are a genius. -
External Command Seat weird behavior
Wooks replied to Wooks's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
LV-909 gives the same message, Rockomax 48-7s does not, I´m guessing the size of the engine is linked to that but is a really weird behavior. -
I´m doing some work on a downloaded vehicle and the External Command Seat is giving me some problems I´ve never encountered before. I´m adding some tanks and a rocket at the end of the vehicle (don´t pay attention to the crew modules behind), and the seats work fine with every part I add until the aerospike at the end. When I place the aerospike the seat gives me the message: "Seat is obstructed. Cannot board". Pics below, first one without the aerospike and Kerbal on seat, next one with aerospike and message. Anyone has an idea why this happens? Workarounds?

Alright, I installed chaterer (my first mod of this kind) and then I moved the interface out of the screen... now I can´t bring it back, any help?

Granted, you receive a VHS copy of Disney´s "The Black Hole" I wish for a set of Jeb, Bob and Bill full poseable 6 inches collectable figures.

I finally set foot on Kerbins Antartic Continent in my mission to circumnavigate Kerbin on a rover.

Multiple SAS and inline reacton wheels

Streamlined and functional rockets need a couple of those. Now if you are fond of building monstruous multi-stage behemots then you´ll need them in spades in order to maneuver your ship. -
OMG flying a VTOL with this

I´m currently running two series with rovers on my Youtube channel: 1.- "Let´s Launch" with a giant Pyramid/VTOL/Rover, this one is its maiden flight to the pyramid complex in Kerbin´s deserts, and later on the series it lands on Duna near to the misterius "face of Duna". It rolls at 24 m/s on both planets and drives very well. I raise you a 2.985 tons payload with 3002 parts and 36 stages. 2.- The other series is "Rover Adventures - Around Kerbin", my personal challenge to circumnavigate Kerbin on a rover, no mods, only stock because HARDCORE. It´s a simpler design, low center of mass and multiple wheels.
