None still. It's not any chemical element or compound.

Again depends on the exact models, but probably about equal, or the desktop somewhat better. In the last few years integrated grahics have improved quite a bit and while not a patch on a good dedicated chip they're competent enough for gaming nowadays. If any parts turn out to be faulty you will probably have more trouble getting your money back if it's a few months since you bought them.Other than that, price shifts and product availability are of course a factor. You'd expect prices to go down over time, but sometimes they can go up, especially for memory. Things like cases, coolers, even keyboards and mice can be withdrawn from sale replaced by a new version that you actually don't like as much. I'd say stuff you can test easily now is good to buy early, ie peripherals, and the case which you can visually inspect. But the core hardware I would want to buy close to when I would use it. RAM and hard drives *may* be worth buying if you have reason to think the price will go up.

Assuming it's a recent i7 with a 4-digit model number then that's a decent laptop processor, but paired with a graphics chip that while a cut above laptop integrated graphics is still relatively slow. I expect KSP will run fairly well on it though you may want to lower some graphics settings, but more graphically-demanding games might struggle.

None of the above. It's not a celestial body.

None of the above. It's not anything to do with golf.

It's a problem with all the city services, the despatching is prone to trying to send a vehicle over from the other side of the city and not from the nearest fire station, police station, incinerator, whatever. I'm not sure exactly how it works, but hopefully a patch or mod will make things behave more sensibly.

I *would* have to get the last post on a page...newpage repost Called a colour, seems unfair, Called some water, I have more, With a beach that has no sands, And lights turned on by famous hands. The rock? Best made to disappear. The garden? Place for eye and ear. So cross the tracks, but look both ways, And hope for many sunny days. None of the above guesses.

SSTO LowTech 0.90 Ferram -- doable?
cantab replied to tklenke's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Making a Basic Jet spaceplane in FAR is tough. You can't even hit Mach 1 on the jets so you need a lot of rocket delta-V, it can be almost as much as for a regular rocket. My approach was to pack big wings to climb as high as I could on the jets, and this is my Basic Jet SSTO, inspired by the Avro Vulcan. Delivers two Kerbals and up to two tons of cargo to LKO. Takes around 25 minutes to reach 15 km on the single jet, it's a bit underpowered, then the rockets are equivalent to two 909s and 4 48-7Ses - a combination that itself is about the same as one LV-T45 but can be put symmetrically. Fuel routing is designed to minimise CoM shift. One of the toughest things was to get the trim right and keep the nose up through the transonic region - the rearmost parts of the wings are angled up *just* right for this. The wings are all minimum weight too, so this thing needs a gentle hand to avoid snapping them off. -
Asteroids, the one stop portable gas stations of KSP 1.0
cantab replied to Rocket Farmer's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Not when the dry mass of your "fuel tank" is ten times the mass of the fuel it holds, instead of the other way round.Assuming the asteroids can't have nearly all their mass taken away and made into fuel, then unless the mining takes a *long* time it will be far better to meet the asteroid, drain it of ore, optionally convert right away, and fly to where you want the fuel. -
Keep right on playing. Perhaps not start new missions, but the old ones can take time. Put it this way: I was still playing .23.5 when .25 came out.

I hope there's a square or rectangular big wing piece. I can see that being useful for all sorts of structural stuff.

Ship yaws by itself
cantab replied to Shurikeeen's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
It's probably a mod putting control inputs. You have FAR, its pilot assistance tools provide control inputs. Other mods might too. Another possibility is you have a joystick or gamepad set up and it's not properly centred. -
This one shouldn't be too hard. Then again, I usually think that when I write them. Called a colour, seems unfair, Called some water, I have more, With a beach that has no sands, And lights turned on by famous hands. The rock? Best made to disappear. The garden? Place for eye and ear. So cross the tracks, but look both ways, And hope for many sunny days.

"A man and not a man" well, that suggests a woman. "Saw and did not see" - I'm not sure, but I suspect that one of "saw" and "see" is not referring to eyesight. "a bird and not a bird" - could be a slang usage of 'bird'. A woman, or perhaps a person sticking their finger up in an obscene gesture. "a branch and not a branch" - Maybe a sense of branch other than a tree? Maybe wood, that might have been a branch at one point but is now a floor or some furniture. "And hit him and did not hit him" - Really not sure again. Also, seems to contradict the first part being a woman... "a rock and not a rock" - Rock cake? Blackpool rock? A diamond? The only actual guess I can come up with then is a wedding. EDIT: Or, I could simply Google. My second guess is "A eunuch who did not see well saw a bat perched on a reed and threw a pumice stone at him which missed." Taken straight from http://goodriddlesnow.com/riddles/view/286

Small hiccups every few seconds
cantab replied to jelmew's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
I've had this issue too, mentioned here: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/111495-Can-anything-be-done-about-the-every-few-second-stutter Some mods can worsen it, in particular Kerbal Engineer if it's calculating delta-V, but it shows up even in the stock game as you found. -
There's a mod, "terraforming", to change terrain in-game too.

The stock parts that you never ever ever use/hate.
cantab replied to ron1n1's topic in KSP1 Discussion
The corresponding Rockomax part is the HubMax. They're both can be confusing to use because they have six nodes but only two work to attach the hubmax/micronode to another part. Add in that they stop symmetry from working and they weigh too much and it's easy to see why they're not used often. That said I find the Micronode works well to build a probe rover around, provided it's oriented the right way it makes it easy to attach the rover to a decoupler and the extra weight helps the traction. -
To clarify, whether it comes out through the main nozzle or not I'm still calling that "tossed overboard". The mass leaves the rocket, unlike a battery that remains on board after its energy is depleted.
-
Well, you'll have to. I've not had any inspiration so I'll wave play on.

The RL-10's expander cycle still gets the energy to drive the fuel pumps from burning fuel and oxidizer that is then exhausted. It's just that instead of having a separate pre-burner it's all done in the main combustion chamber. It actually strikes me as a rather clever approach.

@Fuzzwad, considering the kind of money you're spending, have you thought about a Haswell-E build? The advantages would be six cores rather than four which will really speed up anything that can use them, more RAM capacity for future-proofing, and the option to run triple or quad SLI - might three 970s offer more performance and less microstuttering than two 980s? The drawback would be potentially lower clock speed, depending on your luck with overclocking. Things that can't make good use of six cores could actually run slower than on a 4790K.

It depends on what format the RAM is and whether the slots are accessible.
