  1. I have the save. Time for some more development I think.
  2. Well, I don't know about a tantrum, but one of the Skylab crews went on strike because they felt NASA was overworking them. Since then astronauts on space stations have worked shorter hours.
  3. I know it's a joke, but I seem to remember that even though miniscule acceleration isn't registered in terms of blocking timewarp and so on, it *does* still propel the spacecraft.
  4. Because it's music written by Kevin MacLeod and licensed widely for others to use. All the KSP soundtrack is by MacLeod *except* for the main menu theme. For example, one of the VAB/SPH themes is called Brittle Rille. https://incompetech.com
  5. Been reading about the new Cities update Colossal Order are working on. Some really great features coming, a lot obviously inspired by popular mods but it's nice to have them stock. Of particular interest for our project is being able to set passenger train stations to not have intercity trains, so no more of those orange things flooding our network! And on a lighter note, if you need some inspiration for your metro systems:
  6. And Save Uploaded http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=897341034 Anyone with metro lines you need to check them. I broke a subway tunnel to run a train tunnel, the one from Arbor to Squares, and didn't fix it promptly, oops! I put the tunnel back but I'm not sure if all the lines have re-discovered the route. Decided I wanted a beach, so landscaped myself one. Which has promptly grassed over, go figure. Oh well it's good enough. Also built a coastal passenger line, a freight line, and did some highways. And added a small neighbourhood and industrial estate. The Estuary Tunnel is a highway tunnel under the mouth of the river. I've done my end and I'll let the people on the other side of the river take care of completing it and linking it up. @ThaZeus I've terminated those rail lines on the town border, so you can extend them as you see fit. @HebaruSan there's a highway that stops south of my town after the stackabout. I've left that for you to join up to your highways if you like.
  7. I have the save./ I'll let somebody else take the save, I've got some TV to watch and haven't done anything worth uploading. I have the save again, now that my TV has finished. Love your forest city.
  8. Indeed I'd say that good general advice, if you're interested in development progress on any mod that's on Github: Just go to the Github page, click 'Branches', and see if any of them have been updated recently.
  9. I got a good laugh out of this That pic looks suspiciously like Dres... As for me, I am playing RSS size, and I finally got my latest lifter to work. Rook will put 50 tons into LEO. More than enough to send up the core of my fuel depot space station, OS Bedrich Smetana, which is 30 tons dry but add a 10 ton ( ) fairing and some fuel for good measure. I still have to make the stage separations on the lifter less explosioney though.
  10. They don't? That's odd. As for ideas, hmmm. We could go for Monuments perhaps, although sometimes they feel a bit game-spolingly overpowered. Most of them can go pretty much anywhere, but the Space Elevator in particular needs to go somewhere with good transport links. In fact, something to try: Is it possible to temporary build the requisite uniques, build the monument, then demolish the uniques so they're free for placement again? Speaking of transport, a major transit hub somewhere might be nice. But I think it would place well in one of the central towns, ie not me or Hebaru. Unless we build it in a 'common' area outside the towns. Then again, the scale of the entire area might be a bit large for that to work well. And I was thinking about some bay crossings. I'd more expect the towns on the bay to handle that though, but if you fancy building something spectacular then go for it. Watch out for the shipping lanes, ships sailing through bridges is ugly.
  11. Theoretically, a negative mass should move in the opposite direction to the applied force. Which means normal gravity still makes it fall - the force is upwards, but the motion downwards, a double negative making a positive and all that. But a rocket engine would 'pull' the mass into the thrust. It doesn't appear that Kerbal models this correctly though, unsurprisingly.
  12. Since we're comparing apples and orange tanks, as I see it what SpaceX have done is analogous to recovering just the Shuttle SRBs. The SRBs were essentially the Shuttle's first stage with the SSMEs acting as vernier thrusters. Most of the mass, most of the thrust, but thanks to the rocket equation well under half the speed. And while the Falcon 9 first stage is hardly slow when it re-enters - it scorched the grid fin after all - it's nowhere near the speeds of re-entering the upper stage. The Shuttle by contrast reused both stages and just ditched a drop tank. The ET was important, certainly, but it's pretty much dumb structure. The kind of thing NASA could have hoped to make relatively cheaply. It's not so much different to a military plane flying with a drop tank. On the other hand, the Shuttle showed that reusing the upper stage after it's dealt with the heating load of an orbital re-entry is not easy which made it not cheap. Falcon 9 should work out better for the economics, the first stage is I assume much more expensive than the second whereas with the Shuttle it was the other way round. But re-using the second stage is still something I do not expect to be easy, especially as every kilo added for landing is a kilo less for payload, and it's already about a 100 ton (full) stage pushing a 5 ton payload when the first stage is landing. I won't be surprised to wait another 10 years before SpaceX do it, I won't be surprised if it doesn't happen before Falcon 9 as a whole is superseded, and I won't be surprised if SpaceX try it but then revert to disposable second stages (at least temporarily) on cost grounds. And on a final note, yes Falcon 9 Stage 1 can land and refly. Yes Falcon 9 Stage 1 can theoretically SSTO. But I'm pretty sure it can't do both in one flight!
  13. 7/10. If this is winning, I hate to know what losing is like. Yes, it is a spacecraft.
  14. 8/10. Wow they buffed lasers since I last played, but it's a big target and the radiators run too cool.
  15. 68 GiB in my ksp installs folder, which has multiple installs from 1.0.5 and a zip of older versions. Plus 19 GiB in my ksp_mods folder. Plus 62 GiB in my legacy mods folder. Overall my /home folder is 98% full, with 67 GiB remaining on a 2.7 TiB drive. Looks like I need to have another clearout ... or just buy a bigger drive. I have dreams, when I can afford it, of getting a 4 TB SSD.
  16. And uploaded http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=894266595 Spent time building my city's ring road and amending the highway that now serves both mine and ThaZeus's city. No new zoning and not let the city run for any great time, but it lays the groundwork for me to expand and handle the traffic. Hopefully.
  17. Save uploaded: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=893649346 Guess I had it longer than I planned. The trains have come to Bonnemotte! Trying to build vaguely realistic gradients - flat, basically - is time consuming. Oh and I cleared out my 'starter town', I'll redevelop its coastal area in future. @ThaZeus feel free to plug into the Bonnemotte branch line where appropriate if you like. However I plan to in future run passenger and freight lines along the coastline too which will offer a more direct route.
  18. I have the save Prolly not for long though
  19. Well we shout "England!" a lot, but only at football matches. Maybe because that's one of the things we're still successful at...not!
  20. I expect it to be. If any oddities arise we can investigate.
  21. Yes, I've noticed that before, if you do terraforming with time stopped it won't recognise the new coastline until time has run for a little bit. Also if you reclaim land with time stopped, as soon as you resume time the water will jump up and then flow out as in effect a small tsunami, so be careful if doing that near the cities!
  22. Statue of Liberty is from the Deluxe Pack. So yes, as Hebaru has shown it is liable to up and vanish when the next person takes the save. Not that it hugely matters unless you end up really relying on the happiness boost.
  23. Nice one! I had wondered if we were stuck around 70k a bit but this weekend everyone's blown past that! The project's looking awesome now. Stranded's Thrintunville is accounting for almost half the population alone and looks set to be the first to need to expand your borders, Winkall's been doing some lovely work on the mountain, we've got klesh's long beach just coming up, I can't wait to see how Hebaru's Cities of Catan turns out, and everywhere seems to be humming along smoothly. Separating the internal passenger rail might be an idea, at the moment I'm seeing some problematic rail congestion. It will probably take some co-ordination to join it all up though. I trust Stranded to lead us on that. In any case the wye in Arbor Gardens wants enlarging, at the moment it's small enough that three freight trains can gridlock it.
