  1. DMagic: Can you provide a link to the source of your version? You say you didn't change anything, but SCANsat keeps a local enum representing all of the possible orbit icons. So I suspect it needs to be changed to include the new types. And it may need a re-ordering to pick out the correct section of the texture for icons. I figured out on my own that the addition of SpaceObject is probably responsible for some bugs (Flags not appearing). I don't know if Unknown is new or not (I don't think it is?). Either way, I don't understand how to get the enumeration from MapView and/or the OrbitIcons, and I don't quite understand how to know which icons are in what places in the appropriate texture. I asked a question about that in the plug-in development forum, and accidentally posted 'decompiled code' -- which got me an 'infraction.' Evidently the fact that MonoDevelop provides this (useless, honestly) information to me without me asking for it is not justification enough. Anyway, I'm sure I'll include the toolbar changes and whatever else you have working into my first release. I also plan on SCANsat showing a specified number of future/past orbits on the Big Map, so ideally you can see 'at a glance' if your current orbit/inclination will cover the map or not. I may also try to include the optimum orbit calculator (which is currently written in Octave/Matlab code) directly into the SCANsat library.
  2. I haven't even asked him yet. I am preparing some bugfixes and changes so that when I do ask him, the decision will be a no-brainer.
  3. I am on a mission to reduce the enormous amount of logging that is being dumped by various mods into KSP.log. I don't necessarily mean to remove log entries (it is not my place to decide who wants to see what), but to reduce the number of lines of logging so that people who are monitoring logs (like with tail -f) don't have so much possibly useful information slip by. One of the offenders that I targeted early (because I already had a development environment setup for it) is this mod. One of the simplest changes is to shorten the logging header from ActiveTextureManagement to ATM. One of the others is to change the ordering and field labels for the texture information dump, so that there is one line per texture. I also use tabs (ick?) to make all of the fields line up in columns. This does not persist to copy/pasting into the forum, but at least it's nice on the screen. Is this something the mod author is interested in?   4. I am developing this mod actively. I have not yet released any new versions to the public yet. I intend to fix a few small bugs, and add both minor and major enhancements. As far as I know, the mod generally works quite well. I have personally tested all of the sensors that ship with SCANsat, and they all still work. They all produce fine maps. The maps can be exported to PNG just fine.
  5. I manually added a NASAmission config. Is this necessary? It seems like otherwise NASAmission textures and whatnot never appear in the textureCache.

  8. This concept is partially implemented in SCANsat by default, although there are only two levels of sharpness, and it only applies to altimeter data. I fully support the idea that scanning a body you wish to land on is clearly a logical pre-requisite, even for our foolhardy Kerbals. It makes very little sense to attempt a landing on any body (even Kerbin) without altimetry. The difference is the difference between landing on a smooth, level terrain and crashing into little rocky bits.
  9. It is safe to use anywhere, because it will be ignored if it's inappropriate. I don't think ATI cards will do anything with it. NVIDIA cards with recent enough drivers supposedly will, but I can't be sure if it helps or not.

  11. You can tell by looking at the two config files. The only differences are to: ### Resize the texture by the scale specified. Use powers ### of two for best efficiency. 1 is no scalling, 2, is 1/2 ### 4 is 1/4, etc. scale = 1 [B]or 2[/B] ... ### Section for normalmapped textures. Same as above, but ### apply only to normal maps. compress_normals = false mipmaps_normals = true [B]or false[/B] scale_normals = 2 max_size_normals = 512 [B]or 256[/B] The settings in bold are the aggressive ones. So, in english: * The aggressive version cuts texture sizes in half, while the standard version does not. * The aggressive version generates mipmaps for normal (or bump) textures. * The aggressive version reduces all normals to 256x256, and the standard version reduces them to 512x512.
  12. I have found a very serious bug (which my be my fault for using SelectRoot incorrectly, but the bug is so serious that it doesn't matter). The trigger for the bug is bringing in multiple subassemblies which have been SelectRooted to normally non-rootable parts (usually a docking port, ejector, or stack decoupler). When you combine them into one ship, and you try to selectroot anything *or* you try and launch the ship, KSP will simply consume memory loading and re-loading until it runs out. I can repeat this bug. I will try to get a simpler test case that involves the minimum number of parts and get back to here.
  13. Most people (myself included) would be suspicious of a program that is a drop-in executable like this, when we think that the same thing could be accomplished with an add-on. That executable could do anything (and could be malicious!). And it probably doesn't work on Linux. I'm guessing without looking that the .pas file you have listed as source is a Delphi program. But I would guess that virtually nobody here has a Delphi compiler handy to check that your code isn't malicious. So I would suggest that you find some other way to do this, but other than that -- nice work!
  14. Perhaps unscrupulously, I have been using some of the shuttle engines (the OMS ones, not the shuttle ones) as Mun lander engines -- or in other places. I also (perhaps *more* unscrupulously) use MechJeb to do many things for me. I noticed that a lot of my burns were going out of control. I then realized after some prodding that the simplest solution was to simply turn off the gimbal. (The engine I'm using doesn't have any default trim, it seems) However, this setting does not seem to persist at all. If I turn it off in the VAB, it's enabled on the pad. If I turn it off in a savegame, it's on when I reload it. I use so many plug-ins I can't be sure it's caused by this pack directly. But can someone do some experiments to see if it happens to them?
  15. As I understand it, the purpose of the MapTraq is essentially to read the already scanned information for the body your are orbiting, regardless of any other scanners on that vessel. The net result is that SCANsat requires you to: * install a part to view any mapping data while in a flight * activate that part to any data (presumably this means it can draw electricity, if so configured) This is the intended design of the mod. Once you do this, however, the maps should work normally even when accessed through the toolbars. Am I correct in understanding you want the 2nd point to be changed? Ie, you want the map to be active and available always if MapTraq is installed? Or do you really simply just want the button on the MapTraq to be renamed?
  16. No. I have substantive additions to mod as well (not that toolbar support does not count). In an effort to understand and calculate the optimal orbital parameters for scanning (with one vessel in one session, I suppose), I have modified the SCANsat plugin to display more than one past and future orbit on the Big Map. Like this: This isn't quite correct (it's not showing any 'future' orbits, which would be more and more translucent and blue). Nevertheless, the idea should be clear. If this parameter is high enough, and you have an orbit which closes in few enough equator passes, then these dots (which, by the way, are larger and hopefully will be sized relative to the FOV of the scanner), then you should visually see the covering of the map. Also, I think I would like to adjust the parameters of the SAR scanner as it seems very difficult (if not impossible) to get anywhere near an ideal orbit. But maybe my orbit scanner isn't correct. Anyway, let me know if anyone finds the original author and/or you have suggestions.
  17. I haven't, but I will now. Is -80 a retrograde orbit? edit: Evidently not. Inclination runs from [0..180] degrees. So anything with an angle of 90 or above would be retrograde. I'm not sure if it makes a difference, given the way I see all of these things calculated. But I'll investigate further. Overall, however, I would say that it doesn't matter for this tool because this tool is primarily looking for near-polar orbits.

  19. sarbian: Can you change the integrated MJ toolbar functionality to hide the MechJeb tab when the MJ button is clicked in the toolbar? I think this was the behaviour when the toolbar support was separate. What with everybody's peevishness over MechJeb, it's important to be able to take screenshots that don't have the tab. Also, for those of us like me (small resolution), it's nice to get the tab out of the way.
  20. By the way, the procedure I'm using to test involves making a simple test craft with several sources of torque, several large solar panels, ~ 6000 units of electricity. I then use HyperEdit to put it in the specified altitude above the body. After the orbit has stabalized, I extend the solar panels, clear the existing map. Then, I use HyperEdit again to adjust the inclination to match the orbit. I then add an Alarm Clock pause event after the specified amount of time. Then I turn on the scanner I'm testing and warp up to a factor of 1000x until Alarm Clock pauses the game.

  25. Hello folks. I would like to experiment with changes to one somewhat popular module (SCANsat), and I want to peek inside another (MechJeb). But I'm on Linux, and I don't really know anything about Unity/Mono. I'm aware of this repository (ksp-devtools) which I guessed would help me, but the instructions there to build Mono and/or the profiler did not work for me. I'm not even sure if I want to build mono, anyway. What do I need to do/install to be able to build the SCANsat module myself so I can play around with it? Do I need Unity? Do I need mono? Both? Do I need any specific PPAs to get the appropriate versions? I'm on Ubuntu 12.04 if that matters. Thanks!
