If a bunch of birds is the biggest problem in realizing this technology then there is no hope for humanity anyway.

Silly apes, why didn't they stay in their trees? There is only one way to live in and with the nature. Of course nobody likes that but also nobody likes the alternative. Silly apes....
-
Well i didn't want a source to this. SomeGuy12 claimed that they actually started producing of the RD-180 in the US although it was already explained that this is not going to happen. I want a source for this claim or else this claim is not worth anything.
-
source?
-
That's good news for SpaceX.
-
Also patented tech only is a problem when you are selling stuff that is patented by someone else. You are perfectly fine to use patented tech in experiments, nobody can forbid that.
-
Naturally, the whole point about this drive is not to go faster then C because it's simply not possible but still arrive where you want to in a very short time.

So traveling through a wormhole between two points in a static frame won't cause CTC's?
-
Even in Wikipedia you can read that a wormhole can be used as a time machine only in a specific case and that one is when one of the ends is moving. In the other case you will only be traversing space. Still people here claim that it does not matter which method someone uses it will end always in time travel. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wormhole
-
I don't think it makes much more sense to argue here, in the end it doesn't matter either. I highly doubt any of us will live long enough to see that they have been right or wrong.
-
What does intuition has to do with causality? Even a farmer knows that the apple can't hit the ground until it falls off the tree. No it's exactly self evident as it is, there are only 2 choices here to go, either warp drives are possible but their function will turn out to be different then we assume and they will not break causality. The other option is they are impossible to do. It's your choice just don't say they are possible but will brake causality cause i'm sure this is not possible.
-
So the expansion of the universe shows us time flowing back? Well this is something which still has to be observed, my standing point is we can't persist onto such things only by drawing a 2D diagram. Causality is basically the most important law of nature i really can't understand why an scientist would claim anything that will break it. Without causality our universe wouldn't exist yet ppl screaming here that an FTL drive would brake it. If we really will be able at some point to construct it then CTC is certainly not going to happen. You all can say what you want but this is surely something you can't mess with. Well i know some laws people here seem to try to break here constantly like causality. First you guys hold onto the well known laws of nature, then we talk further.
-
How can someone explain in detail something which was not observed yet. Nobody ever observed time going backwards, and also nobody ever observed something going faster then light. FTL travel is simply not possible. And the whole FTL naming is misleading cause it's not what would happen if we could actually build the Alcubierre drive.
-
Well the thing that is misunderstood here is that people for whatever reasons believe that FTL travel to some point in the universe will involve a time travel back in time. Let's for the moment assume we are a photon that is travelling to KIC 8462852 from Earth. From our perspective we will arrive there instantly. From the perspective of Earth we will be travelling 1400 years. From the perspective of the photon if we started our Journey from Earth in the very same moment as when for example the drop in light intensity occurred that we registered with our telescopes the photon will arrive there at this very same moment and will be able to see what exactly just happened there causing this drop in light. Correct me if i'm wrong but i believe that is current knowledge in science. Ok, now let's try to think what would happen if there is a wormhole connecting Earth and KIC 8462852 together. Getting there is just a matter of stepping a few meters through this wormhole but this steps will take you 1400ly away. Someone is tempted here to assume that this will be a travel into the past of KIC8462852 but i'm pretty sure that wouldn't happen. Much more likely IMO is that you will do a travel into the future of KIC 8462852. You will arrive there 1400years later then a photon will arrive there doing the same trip. So you will be able to see how KIC8462852 will progress 1400years in the future from Earths perspective. The thing is when you go back through the wormhole you will be back in you own space time and only the time you have spent at KIC8462852 will have passed. I may be completely wrong on this but as long as nobody builds an FTL drive or finds a wormhole nobody can prove me wrong on this. And this makes much more sense then all this back in time travel mumbo jumbo i was hearing until now. Also if this is true there is now way to break causality. Cause no information will travel faster then light which btw is not possible any way as we all know.

Starship Enterprise (TNG version) - landable on Earth?
rtxoff replied to wossname's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Everything flies given a certain speed, even a brick. -
Nope not true, you can jailbreak it then you can customize everything you want. You could then even put Androids UI on the iPhone (idk why you would) Also to be able to customize Android you also have to at least root it. I am speaking as someone who has both an iPhone and Android phone so i know what i'm talking about. Also unlocking the bootloader and/or rooting becomes harder and harder with each Android phone coming out. If you are not buying a model the specifically allows you rooting or with an unlocked bootloader you also may have to wait a long time until someone finds an exploit to do it. I don't see any advantage over the iPhone in this point at all. Yeah with the OnePlus this works just fine however OnePlus is not Android, there are many Android phones out there which are locked down and trying to do that could leave you phone to be bricked if you don't know what you are doing. So please spare us with you fan boy attitude towards Android, all manufactures from both systems are companies which have profit in mind and try locking out users from doing specific things with their phones.
-
No, you are not, he's already back again.
-
No, you don't have to use iTunes, i know it starts automatically but you could disable even that. Instead browse your computer and you will find a iPhone drive where all your photos are stored but you can make a new folder there and store other things also.
-
And that is not true. You are just not allowed to access the system partition however the same is valid for Android.

Would SpaceX ever sell it's Rocket engines for other customers?
rtxoff replied to fredinno's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Well as far as i can imagine what Musk would do i'd say he will do whatever it is necessary to some day reach his long term goal of reaching Mars. If selling Merlin engines will get him closer to that goal then he certainly would do it. However i don't think that there is interest in the Merlin engines from the other companies. -
Wow, 50 lanes seem not to be enough in China. And i was thinking the traffic situation in Vienna is bad, silly me.

Can you solve the prisoner hat riddle?
rtxoff replied to RainDreamer's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I hardly doubt that this will work out like that in a real situation under stress. They all end up as alien spam. -
Also they stated in the video that it does not affect all people, only some that have a weak liver function. While normal livers are able to get the small amount of bad substances out of the body in people with livers lacking a certain enzyme the poisons are accumulated slowly in them poisoning them slowly more and more over time. I think this is a serious issue which can be easily solved on new airplanes as the 787 shows us.

I flew quite a few times in my life and almost every time i can smell burned kerosene right after they start the engines. I don't think i imagined this. Normally pilots must turn off bleed air while starting the engines however still the smell somehow gets into the passenger cabin.
