There is no reason to assume that there might be someone out there overtrumping our little puny existence in this universe. But there is every reason to assume that they will be limited the same way by the physical laws we are limited to. So basically a civ that might be able to do something you say will have to overcome the same hurdles we have. Some of that hurdles are: reaching a certain technological level without nuking themselves to oblivion, overcome sociopolitical problems so that the whole planet can use its resources for a common goal, survive eventual natural catastrophes like asteroids and gamma ray bursts. I'm pretty sure there is life out there but i'm also pretty sure we don't have to fear them.

I'm not going to further argue i just will say we will see, we will see. Time will reveal everything.

Well it looks you didn't think this through. What makes you think that we could ever achieve that kind of speedup? We are already reaching the physical limits of integrated circuits. Even if you could speed the process. Acceleration of dumb thoughts won't make the brain smarter only faster. You basically get the same dumb result again just faster. To create a super AI we need to be very creative by other means (completely new and revolutionary programming paradigm) and not by trying to simulate brains.

One thing i'm sure of, the way of making an super AI is not to mimicry the human brain with electronics. You can only create a super dumb AI this way cause the final product is not going to be much smarter then the model it originates from.

The thing is that space can only be something because there is matter and vice versa. An astronaut which is a whole universe might follow entirely different physical rules as we have them in our universe. Space without matter is pointless. There must be something to be able to measure distances between or have an spatial orientation to something else. I am also going as that far saying that an astronaut being an universe can't rotate as described simply because there is nothing else he could rotate relative to (not even space).

I hate console because companies do such things as releasing specific games exclusively for a specific console. I wish to such companies the worst.

Windows 10 updates can disable pirated games and unauthorized hardware
rtxoff replied to rtxoff's topic in The Lounge
Well yeah, you are right, it would be true if i would be arguing but guess what, i am not I'm just expressing my feelings towards W10 and that you can like or not, i really don't care -
Cannae controvery step aside, Octopi maybe aliens!
rtxoff replied to PB666's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Well the Kraken came from outer space too and it's the same family as the Octopus so it seems legit for me , they aliens from space -
So basically you saying it's "as far as we know" valid for all of us and i have to accept the common opinion about it without being allowed to question it. This does not sound very scientific to me. You are giving here only rhetorical arguments for this case and didn't contribute to answering any of my serious inquiries regarding dark matter and other unexplained phenomenons we observe. IMO only when the picture is complete we might conclude how the fate of the universe might be until then the common hypothesis is only a bedtime story for me. Only because most scientists agree to something doesn't mean i have to agree with them or give up for seeking for other answers. BTW i never dismissed observations by stating that scientists have been wrong before. It's not very polite nor scientific to accuse people of things they simply didn't do. So get your facts straight next time.

Nope, it's not fear, i won't live anyway that long to witness it. It's just the missing sense in all of this that makes me denying it. The nature of the universe must be a closed cycle because everything else doesn't make much sense. I know that observations speak against it but still they don't explain everything. Dark matter and some other stellar observations are still a mystery to us. Only a fool will claim to know 100% what is going to happen to the universe in the future. Just look at this for an example: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Attractor

It's just a hypothesis so somehow i won't accept this opinion that all is meaningless and that someday all will went to oblivion. It takes away the last bit of sense in our already anyway meaningless lives. So no, the universe is not going to expand forever, at some point it will all contract together ending in another big bang and the creation of a new universe.

DVD playing app costs 15$ and it doesn't even play Blu-Rays. However you will get this app for free if you upgraded from certain versions like W7 pro and better.

Solubility of CO2 in Water vs. Greenhouse Effect?
rtxoff replied to arkie87's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Something what should be mentioned with oceans absorbing the CO2 is the acidification of them. Ocean acidification will have a serious impact on ocean life and it has already started, we are not able anymore to reverse the process, at this point we can just observe what is going to happen. -
It will but then it will fall back to the old behavior where fuel is not consumed evenly from all tanks. In my opinion the fuelCrossFeed = False from the stack decouplers should be respected, the radial decouplers don't have this line anymore so they still would work for mounting drop tanks. Or even better make all the decouplers/pylons switchable for allowing cross feed or not. It's clearly a bug from my point of view because stacked decouplers "fuelCrossFeed = False" is ignored completely with jet engines.

I agree with much of that just not with the last sentence. People tend to think that ET is some kind of miracle tech user and i think no it's not. The same physical laws that are limiting us will also limit ET. Also the same socio-economical problems we are suffering from will also let ET suffer. Same conditions will most likely develop into the same form of life and their history will be very similar to our. (evolution, wars, exploitation, extinction) So no, if there is ET out there it will be stuck on its own planet the same way we are stuck on earth. I once said in this forum that traveling to other stars is the greatest test live has given upon us and i still hold onto that. Basically it's expand and conquer into the universe or get extinct because getting extinction is the only fate that we have by staying on Earth. It's just about overcoming our differences and work towards a common goal for a better future but this seems to be an impossible task to do. For many people overcoming the inner primate seems to be just impossible. The moment we will stand on the verge of extinction we all will realize this but then it will be too late.

Sometimes i really have to wonder here. First of all there is no such thing as "signals accidentally send by aliens". The only hope someone might pick up a your radio wave somewhere very distant is if you send them directed into its direction. All other radio waves we are constantly emitting are not directed to a specific direction. The difference is enormous. Imagine a 100W light bulb which is emitting its light in all directions. it might be able to illuminate its immediate surrounding and you might be able to see it from a few km in the dark but that's it. Now imagine a 100W laser. You should be able to make someone blind in a few km if you can aim it directly to his eyes. So will anybody pick up our radio waves we are producing already for a century? The answer IMO is definitely no. Might someone be able to pick up a directed transmission from us half across the galaxy? The answer is yes however we might be extinct until the signal arrives. Every other intelligent civilization out there which is capable of sending radio waves will know this also which brings us to the point of this all being pretty hopeless. Because we have no idea which of the stars in the sky might be inhabited with Intelligent life and we don't know where to point our radar dishes to. The same thing also applies to ET. Even if they wanted to send us a signal they wouldn't know in which direction to send to. If you want to send it in all directions you would approximately need the power level of a sun. Which leaves us with the question why should they use this amount of resources to do it? SETI was never very well funded for a reason. The reason is it simply doesn't make any sense if you like it or not. Edit: got ninjaed a bit by Magnamoe
-
While all of them might be listening no civilization is going to operate a continuous beacon strong enough to be detectable by others. The best example are we. We will never dedicate out resources in such a thing for many reasons. SETI the way it is now is going to fail but maybe there are other ways to find evidence without listening for radio waves.

I really don't understand why this is still a subject, after discussing it already in a few threads one would think that this topic is over. There's a good reason why there is such an organization like the IAU and if they decide that Pluto isn't a planet anymore they had good reasons for it and everybody not being a member of IAU will have to accept that or become a member and try to change things. Chewing this over and over in this Forum won't change a anything about it. Regardless of my private opinion about Pluto i am accepting their judgement and decision about it because if we would start to object every such resolution things would rather fast develop into chaos. Things evolve and change over time, you can't expect things to stay the same for all of your life guys. So Pluto is not a planet anymore, i couldn't care less because it's still up there and it didn't change it's physical properties. I just have to learn not to call it a planet anymore but this is obviously a very big pain for some of you and it's IMO very hypocritical given the fact that humanity has to worry about much greater problems.

Obviously this information can't be true because it doesn't make any sense, why would they put an overdimensioned RTG into the probe if they could do the same mission with a much smaller one weighting much less?
